For as long as I have been in the forums here I don't recall Dell ever announcing the future release of a BIOS update.  They'll just appear in the Dell File Library.  The best I can advise is to check back from time to time.

I still have the same problem when the machine restarts it hangs or gives me the "No Boot Device" error.  If I shut the power off via the power button and wait 1 minute then turn it on it boots fine with no problems.  Weird??? Everything in the BIOS that was recommended off is off but that did not help.  I have not been able to figure this out.  I am making a guess that the problem is BIOS related???  I was waiting to see if the next upgrade maybe fixed the problem.  Any suggestions???

The A09 bios update did solve the USB problem of the system hanging at a blinking cursor in the top left side of the screen after going thru the bios. (At least for me it did) You do have to disable the USB boot options in the set up screens after the update. (this was there on previous versions but didnt seem to work)

But now after installing A09 I have an issue where the system will hang at 1/3 of the way thru the bios about once out of every 5-7 boots. It was worse until I disabled fast boot. I am not sure if this is a USB issue or something new. When it happens 1, 2, and 3 diag lights are green. I have reseated everything in the box but it didnt help. I havent tried leaving my USB stuff disconnected yet to see if they are the culprit or not yet tho, since it is just a hassle to have to reconnect them every time I boot.

Check to see what your boot order is. Make sure the hard drive is your primary and only device listed  in the boot sequence. just an idea

All,

It seems to relate to what USB devices are plugged in on restart and cold boot. To test this, remove all USB devices except for the keyboard/mouse. Power on. Check the PC. Then, power off, add one USB device, power on, check the PC etc.

Chris,

quick question

does the greencover on the back of the harddrive compartment serves any purpose/
i feel as if it keeps the harddrive running hotter by not allowing air to circulate?

can i take off the green cover? would this help my keep the hardrives running cooler?

Chris, what are we suppose to do once you discover the devices that are causing it to hang?

I know which devices I cannot leave plugged in at boot up, but the question still remains, is Dell going to do anything to fix this?  It is a pain to pull the computer out when ever I might want to use these devices.

Wholf,

What devices were they?

Chris,

Thanks for replying...The devices are the Saitek X52 Flight Control system, and NaturalPoint's Track IR4.  I had these devices connected to my custom built computer every since I purchased them with out a problem, but since my Employer was gracious enough to purchase us new systems for our remote management, I switched everything to this new XPS600.  I am not sure it is the hardware in general, or just to many USB devices plugged in at one time confusing the BIOS. If I leave them unplugged, the computer will boot properly 95% of the time.. I say 95% because I have also noticed that about every other day,  I will have to reboot because it does not pick up on my Razer Diamondback mouse at post time.. I know this because the mouse will not light up when the computer boots prior to going to the Windows splash screen, and is dead once you go into Windows. I found out instead of rebooting now, I can reach back and unplug the mouse(with out the normal Ding from Windows showing I unplugged something), wait a few seconds, plug it back in(then I get the Ding from Windows indicating a USB device connection), and everything works fine.

Chris,

I won't be able to do that until tonight after I get off work.  The system is at my residence.

Edit: I was just looking at the PDF manual, and it does not list any specific numbers for the USB ports.  Can you post a diagram on how they are numbered so we are singing off of the same sheet :o) ?

Wholf,

Ok. List every USB device and the specific port they are in. That is 8 devices.

Chris,

Here it is looking at the back starting from the left

Bottom left is the Keyboard right next to that is the Mouse

Next row up far left is the Printer, then the X52, and then the Track IR...

Wholf,

Ok. Try this:
* Load the A03 bios

* When finished loading the A03 bios and have restarted, check the PC out without making any adjustments in the bios. If it still has issues

* Turn on your computer, and watch the keyboard lights. As soon as they flash, press the F2 key
* The message, Entering Setup should appear
* Down arrow to Boot Sequence
* Make sure USB device is NOT the first device in the list
* Down arrow to Onboard Devices [press the ENTER key]
if listed, set USB Controller to No Boot
if listed, set USB for FlexBay to No Boot
* Press the Esc key and then press the Enter key to save the changes and reboot the system

* Check the PC out
