HELP I need a real expert (screen resolution ATI X1400)(advanced users please)

Question

I have a 17' Ultra sharp WUXGA w/true life LCD paired with an ATI X1400 on my 1705 laptop.   Get this, The properties panel states that the screen resoltion is 1920x1200 but the actual resolution is 1536x960!!! I have checked it with multiple methods including pixel sized pictures and auto screening methods on the internet. When I remove the driver for the X1400, and reboot, it will get to the proper size of 1920x1200. As soon as I reboot again though, it goes back to its error of saying a 1536x960 screen resolution is 1920x1200.   This makes all of the web page pictures blocky. A real pain.   Any advise or thoughts? Is there something simple I am missing?

have you tried setting your max external resolution to something lower, so it forces it to go to a lower resolution?

are you connecting it through the hd15 or dvi?

did you have the driver for the lcd installed?
