Hi Baysyd,

M991 had issues with changing screen resolutions. You have mentioned that you donot have picture at all now. It is better you run a monitor self-test. To run self test, unplug the cable that goes from monitor to the computer tower (unplug the cable from the tower). Let the power cable of the monitor be connected to the power source. Now you should see monitor self test screen. It should display 3 colors, red, blue and green. If you get this, your monitor is fine. If you do not get this self test screen, it means the monitor is dead.

Happy troubleshooting,

Cheers,
Maddy

Hi Maddy,  Thanks for the help.  It does have the red green and blue image when plugged in, usually.

When all this started I dont know that it was a resolution issue.  What I meant to say when the picture got smaller was that it was normal then shrunk equally to a pin dot then that disappeared.

I checked the vid card and it was working fine.  I attached different monitors to my computer and they all worked fine but this one had no picture.  I have since bought a new monitor and have had no issues.

I did plug the old monitor in and I did get the colored bars again.  Later today I will hook it back up and see if it works.

Ill also read trough the rest of that info link you gave me and see if there is anything else that I can do if the issue still exists.

Thanks

Hi Baysyd,

If your monitor was purchased within last 3 years, then it should be covered under warranty even if your system is out of warranty. You can call Dell Technical support at 1800-624-9896. Else you can chat with Dell technical support or email them with order no.

I am sure they will guide you through certain troubleshooting steps(which you have already performed) and replace the monitor if required.

Note : Let Dell Technical support know that a good known monitor is working fine.

Cheers,
Maddy.
