Same, this is my first dell monitor and will certainly be my last.  I'm not sure if scan would take it back now to be honest since the only problem is a design flaw which im not sure they would accept as faulty...

Oh well, we live and learn... Never buy anything by dell I think is the lesson here.. lol

The strange thing is that its fine using the VGA connection, its just DVI thats the problem.. Is it possibe the video processing they speak of is still enabled using DVI with desktop mode because I can't see much difference between the 3 image modes using DVI... :(

I am actually using the VGA. As I said, same banding...

The only difference between the A00 that I sent back and A02 that I have now, is the sharpness - the A02 has a perfectly clear picture.

However, VGA or not, Desktop mode or not, banding is still present, and the same as the A00. After so many replacements, I gave up calling and asking for a new one, fearing that I would get one with no improvements, or with dead pixels. But now that you're saying there's no banding in your A02, I feel the itch to get a new one.

The question is: will they replace an A02?

BTW, there is no, or very little banding when on the Internet, for example. However, it is extremely pronounced when I do a simple gradient in PowerPoint or Photoshop, and again, similar in all three modes.

Strange, the banding is virtually gone using VGA, theres a huge difference between the banding with DVI and VGA on mine, was the same for my old A01 also..

I don't think i've seen anybody with the A02 that claims to have no banding at all, with the two 2407's i've had A01 and A02 the banding had remained using the DVI connnection, again on both its virtually gone using VGA but having a £800 monitor with a dodgy DVI input isnt really what I had in mind...

Dell actually contacted me to confirm I received the monitor and asked if the problem is corrected, I explained it wasnt and he said he'll look into it and contact me again... In fairness their customer service has actually been really good.. Its a shame about their products though..

yeah, with mine VGA vs. DVI and Dekstop vs. Other Modes made a huge difference. Other Modes on DVI had TONS of banding, like literally 3 in 4 shades were lost! DVI desktop had some banding and VGA desktop didn't seem to have any (although I never checked it as carefully).

weird that some see it equally in all modes and also through VGA. (did they forget to burn the new ROM file into some marked as A02?)

yeah, it certainly still bands under A02.

just most people see less of it with A01 and A02 when using desktop mode vs. other modes or any mode of A00. and most don't really see it under VGA, at least not much. so it was just surpring to hear that a few saw no difference in degree of banding between the modes and revisions and DVI vs VGA.

The samsungs are expensive in Canada, so much so that it is difficult to choose over the Dell. For what its worth my 2407 is fine, A02 made in Mexico. I don't work for Dell. I only mention it every now and then to suggest to others that not all of them are duds.

Perhaps those that dabble in high end graphics etc they may not be a good choice. For all the tests I've done, and for my use, I'm fortunate mine is flawless. Why I don't know, but they aren't all problematic.

i wouldn't call it flawless, but for half the price of the Samsung in Canada, I guess I could call it an acceptable compromise. Banding is not $800 worse in my opinion.

How do you generate a gradient in powerpoint if you don't mind me asking?

On a new slide, draw a rectangle, and stretch it till it's the size of the slide. Then go to Fill Color and choose Fill Effects. The first tab is Gradient. Under Colors, choose One color, pick any color you want from the drop-down menu, then drag the slider all the way to Dark. Under Shading Styles, choose Vertical, and under Variants, choose the upper-right one (or whichever you want). Then, see the slide full-screen as a slide show. And voila... (this is the part where I usually get the banding. I use a lot of powerpoint, so you can see why this is a problem for me)

Thank you for the reply.

I see more apparent banding on this power point test than any other test I've done. I'm going to get this monitor refunded immediately.

That's what's bothering me also. Any other gradient test I've done (checkemon, gradlin, etc), comes out OK (or very close to being OK). But when I do this simple gradient, there is so much banding...

Do you have an A02 as well?
