Battery Icon always in System Tray

Question

I am working on an Inspiron 5100 that was having a shutting down problem. I upgraded the BIOS from Phoenix Technologies - A06 to Dell - A32.   After that upgrade the battery icon is always in the system tray even when the AC adapter is plugged in. The only way to get it to remove is to remove the battery.   How do I get it to work as is should going out when the AC is plugged in?   Thanks!

I had a similar problem several years ago on a non-Dell laptop running Win98SE.  My (hazy) recollection is that I had to uninstall ACPI and the battery from Device Manager, then reinstall ACPI after a reboot. However, I'd definitely check this out in the Microsoft knowledge base before doing anything!

does unchecking 'always show icon on the taskbar' in power options>advanced make any difference?

I uninstalled it in Device Manager and it worked fine after a reboot.
