It would help if you'd post the model of the notebook in question.

It should say the model number somewhere on the case, maybe on the bottom.  Mine has it on the case at the bottom of the display, after you open it up to use.

Thank you!  You have been SO helpful.  I'm downloading the manual right now. :smileyhappy:

Oh and I assume I have to turn off the computer before opening the battery bay, right?  Does the manual have a picture that shows where the battery is?

Here is what it says about removing your battery in the Inspiron 2200 owner's manual, page 31:

Slide and hold the battery-bay latch release on the bottom of the computer, and then remove the battery from the bay.

You can d/l the entire manual here: Inspiron 2200 Owner's Manual   It is over 19 MB, so I hope you have high speed service. :smileyhappy:

OMG I'm an idiot, it was right in front of me!  It's a 2200 and that's not affected by the recall right?

But just in case, how do I find the battery?

I really have no idea.  I just know that it's an Inspiron.  How do I find out what model it is?

If you haven't removed the battery by now, it's very easy to spot:  look for where the battery charge indicator is on the underside of the notebook.
