I also would like an answer to this as the ability to play HDTV was one of the reasons I bought this monitor. When I get a HD set top box I want to be able to connect it to my monitor.

I'm a bit confused. 2007WFP doesn't have component? Are you talking about the 2407?

(wow, first time seeing HDCP being needed :smileysurprised: )

The web page selling the 2007WFP here http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/20lcd_au?c=au&l=en&s=dhs under highlights mentions the HDCP. Are you saing that you cannot connect a HD set top box to the 2007WFP?

Just checked that page and it's an Australian link. Is it possible it's only HDCP compliant there? I will check the US page again to see if it's listed.

@I've tried connecting it thru the supplied DVI cable that came with the monitor and I got an error message stating that my "device" (altho it doesn't state which one) is not HDCP compliant. Today I also tried using a HDMI to DVI cable with my other set top box (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD) and recieved another message along the lines of "does not accept resolution of 1680 x 1050 @ 60hz".....or something like that. I also tried changing the cable box resolution to output ALL available resolutions (4801. 480p, 720p, etc) without any change.

One thing I did notice when using the 2 types of cables (supplied DVI and my own DVI/HDMI) is that the pin count was different. The supplied cable has fewer pins than my own cable. As a last resort I will try buying a seperate DVI cable (with more pins) to see if this resolves the issue.

That being said, I really like the monitor. PC using DVI looks great. XBOX 360 using VGA looks good (if not a bit darker than being hooked up to my HDTV using component cables). Even s-video looks passable. My only issues stem from the above issue with trying to display HDTV on it and another minor issue with the soundbar I purchased with it (can only connect one sound source at a time).

I really DON'T want to return the monitor but I will if the above HDTV isue cannot be resolved. Any input from a Mod would be truly appreciated.

The DVI connector with more pins is probably a dual-link. The 2007WFP is single link (DVI-D) so it won't make any difference.

I don't think there would be many who have tried connecting an HDCP input to test, but I've seen reports of unexpected results from other devices using HDCP. It could be that it just doesn't work as it should, and the results are just beginning to emerge.

So I guess with the absence of replies from a moderator or other people we have something else wrong with the 2007WFP. No wonder they have extended the special discount price here in Australia 3 times.

The latest discount special ends on the 10th of this month we will see if they extend it again. They must be trying to get rid of as many of the monitors as possible before the next upgrade.

those discount offers have been going ever since the monitor was released - it's just marketing, they do it on many other products as well. If they just put a fixed price of $699 on it people wouldn't feel like they were 'saving' $300

I'm still not sure what the problem is; is it that HDCP doesn't work over DVI for the 2007WFP at 720p? (in the same fashion that it doesn't work over 1080p for the 2407?)

In short, I can't get HDTV signals on this monitor using the DVI cable that was supplied with the monitor. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my cable box (I tried 2 types) or if it's the supplied cable (which works fine with my PC).

A few more things to add on this subject....

-The supplied cable is a DVI-D single link version

-Not sure if a dual link cable will resolve the issue but I'll get hold of one to try (no time to do so today)

-The monitor can support both types (single and dual)

-My cable box "should" support both based on the pin count and it's definitely DVI-D.

More on this problem sometime tomorrow after I get a new cable. Again, I would really appreciate if a mod could help me with this issue.

Ah ok. I'm not optimistic though considering the 2007 and 2407 share similar issues here and there, and HDCP over DVI is one of them :smileysad:

I'm not so sure. It appears to have a dual link connector, but this does not mean that all pins are connected. This is sometimes done to prevent pins being broken off of mismatched cables. This brief on the panel controller from the Genesis site (Oak FLI5962) implies that it only has a single link DVI receiver: "Ultra-Reliable DVI Receiver up to 165 MHz".

Dell's own site for this monitor states the input as being dual link. The cable they supply is single link. Either way it's a moot point as I have come to the conclusion that this monitor is in fact NOT HDCP compliant. Bought a dual link DVI-D cable today and still got the same message on screen about my device not being compliant.

Just to make sure I didn't get a case of bad luck with 2 sets of cables I tested both types on another HD set (Sony CRT) I have in my bedroom that accepts DVI. Both cables were able to pass thru HD signals without a problem.

Only thing left to do is call up Dell and have it returned.

Sorry to keep on about this - can you provide a link? I can't find anything in the spec.

thanks for the link, but all it says is:
