If it won't run without the battery, the mainboard is faulty.

I am having the same problem with my 5160. I sent the computer back at 10 months with the same problem, mother board replaced. Now it's 6 months later and problems started up again. Dell suggeted to replaced ac adapter and battery with no results. No one has ever mentioned that the computer should be able to run on ac power without battery in befoe, mine won't. Of course waranty is over so no luck in getting any info out of the dell support folks now! I think its time for another laptop- not a dell this time.

I had the same problem.  They installed a new mother board and power cord and adaptor TWICE.

This computer though only 18 months old has had two fans (because it gets VERY HOT), two mother boards, three power cords, a new wireless card and still won't let me rove through the house like it did before the last mother board.  It finally got dropped and broke the monitor so now Dell is off the hook even though my warranty is only half done...no warranty for my stupidity in dropping it  :-).  It was a lemon and I told them so.  I have had other Dells and never had a moment's trouble but this thing was a mess and now I can say it really is...teehee.

Can anyone help me?

I have an inspiron 5150 Notebook that is giving me a problem:  When I tried to start the computer, It starts for a couple of seconds then the fan from the power supply stops.  I got not video at all, No sound, no nothing.  I opened it and found that the fan runs only for a couple of seconds and then it stops.
I am not sure if the problem  is the power supply all or just the fan;
If anyone has ever had any problem like this, please give an advice of what to do cause I do not want to buy a wrong part of some part that will be not necessary to buy for fix it.
If possible send me a e-mail. for any advice or reference.
Thanks.

I have the same problem with inspiron 5160  and they told me to replace the main board which is going to cost me $400-$500. It is not sure that we will not get the same problem again since this is due to the heat generated by the laptop. You might have noticed that  this model laptop becomes  abnormally hot while it is running.  I thought it is a faulty model rather than we mishandelled it.  I was very careful every time I used it.  I was wondering why dell is not recalling this model.

All,

Owners of Inspiron 5150s should contact Dell Technical Support to see if your problem is covered under the Qualifying Repairs of the Lundell Settlement.
