i don't think that's a option on the old I8200.

I take it then that more recent Inspirons can do this.

I guess I don't understand though, if the 8200, today, actively recognizes USB drives at a data access level what do the newer ( younger!) systems have that the 8200 is missing?

the new ones the bios supports booting to a usb device. my I6000 lets me boot to a usb flash stick.
