Inspiron 6000 - Laptop will not boot up - black screen

Question

Laptop will not boot up, the power button on LCD will light but no LED indicators beside the power button. Screen is black. No beeps   At time, the kids were playing a video game and laptop locked up and the display was locked. Only way to get past this was to diconnect the power supply and pop out the battery. Since then, the laptop will not boot, just get a black screen.   I also tried to connect to an external monitor and that did not work. Also tried to boot off a CD and that did not work.   Is is a video card problem. I think the part for this is w5322. Can I just replace this. Is is a motherboard problem or power supply issue?   Mike

try holding down the power button for a minute without battery or power plugged in. then put it back together and see if it turns on.

hmm i ahve the same problem as mike. before i turned shut ,my ;a[top down, i changed it so that when i clsoe the lid it goes in hibernation mode. could be be stuck in hibernation mode?.. if so how can i fix this. ?

I tried to take out the battery and unplug and hit power button for a minute but that did not work.

I also tried running w/o the battery and that did work. Of course it is out of warranty.

Any other suggestions

i would reseat the cd-rom, harddrive and memory. if that doesn't work it could be the mother board.
