This is normal for LCDs. In fact, the wiewing angles of the 2007WFP are alot better than alot of other screens on the market.

It is normal for S-IPS panels to exhibit this behavior. Other panel technologies won't do this. It's the case of S-PVA panels. But for those, it'll come at the price of poor color tone uniformity during normal viewing.

my Dell 1707FP at work does not exhibit this behavior ... is that b/c it isn't an S-IPS panel?  the method to bring up the service menu does not seem to work the same on this monitor as it does on the 2007WFP so i can't check the panel version.

The 1707FP uses a Samsung panel (PVA).

I got the same monitor with rev a001 as well.
Do you guys experience any Power Saving mode issue? It worked flawlessly on my previous monitor, but on this Dell, it remains in green mode...

This is a contrast problem, that's why they lock the contrast. zero the control (mine is at 110% and then work the other settings I bet it'll clear right up.

I think I found the issue:
I was using the VGA cable from my previous monitor, when I used the cable provided by Dell, it worked!

Didn't know there could be differences among VGA cables....

andocrates, you think adjusting the contrast would solve my problem?  i'm not sure if i understand exactly how to adjust the contrast ... do i need to plug in the VGA cable to do so or is it possible through DVI?

You need to be in VGA to be able to ajust contrast. In DVI it's done by the Graphics card drivers. But, it doesn't matter since what you describe is NOT related to contrast. Changing it to anything will NOT change in any way the issue you describe. It's part of the panel design and can't be change. Any S-IPS panel will exhibit the same behavior.
