What's so special about this info or a must read? Nothing new here - we already know Faroudja, ACC/ACM is causing the problem and it was disabled in Desktop mode.

or have I missed a sentence?

yeh i know i wasn't exactly reffering to the quote.... instead i was trying to show people to the long thread over at whirlpool forums which can give people more detailed talk into this monitor and so that dell can read it and get some more detailed feedback about the issues, especially since its an australian forum and not many worldwide residents may be aware of it.

interesting thing on desktop mode when I scrolled the gradients, they also shifted, even more oddly depening upon how much of them was left on screen and so on, they would even change levels once I stopped scrolling left them, say 1" scrolled up and the would be darker and slightly different pattern than 3" scrolled up, etc.

From the two 2407's i've received I think the Faroudja processor is only disabled in desktop mode using VGA, with DVI its definately still enabled since I can't see any difference between the three image modes using DVI, the banding is equally as bad in all three modes.

atm i'm using VGA as its easily provides better image quality over DVI on the screens i've received, I have A01 and A02, they both suffer with banding equally.

I wonder if one of the teams at one of the factories is flashing the wrong firmware cos there are people with 2407's who say they have had an improvement from their old one.

I read on some Australian forum that there are suspicions that some of the A02 marked units actually got flashed with A00 ROM. While almost everyone agrees the A02 ROM still leaves it with banding on desktop, the vast majority also agree that with A01 and A02, there is a noticeable difference in banding between desktop and the other two modes (probably 2.5x more banded on the other two modes), maybe you got an old ROM even though an A02??

Yeh shocky if your getting the same banding across all 3 modes with no noticeable big diff then i don't think you have a "proper" flashed A02, return it for another A02 and see what happens although i would return it for good and get refund as the A02 still has many issues including noticeable banding still...

Well if the level of banding with DVI was the same as the VGA then that would be good enough for me.. Slight banding I can put up with but the blatant banding with DVI is just really obvious.

I'll probably end up asking for another replacement as i'm still in touch with dell technicial support and they know I still have the same problem..... Only problem is I didnt purchase it directly from dell so can get refund from them...

We just got a brand new 2407FPW revision A02. After testing and evaluating this unit, I regret to inform you that this one is going back to Dell. this particular monitor has ghosting, and the worst banding I've ever seen. The banding is so bad, that a simple black-white gradation box, appears as rainbow colors, with a grossely distored image, and lines all across the box.

They claim that this unit is an 8-bit color process monitor, but after the tests we ran on it, it is more like a 4-bit or may be a 6-bit low end of the scale unit, but definately not an 8-bit unit.

In my opinion, not the choice for high end pro gamers, professional photographers, or engineers perforning intense 3D rendering.

Look forward to the A03 revision and beyond...
