i think it might be a hardware defect, because there's no reason that dell wouldnt just fix it if it was a firmware issue. the best thing they could do was try and hide the defects by disabling some firmware features.
oh and the price is dropping pretty steadily. i think im keeping my 2407wfp a02 even with the ugly banding, because $700 is not bad for a 24" (defective) widescreen, and i've had zero dead pixels and zero other problems besides the banding, so i'm scared to try other brands.
which is why they probably wont release an A03 that actually fixes the problem. If it is a hardware issue and they release an A03 then they are admitting they have an error and then would have to replace everyones monitors. Since dell is increasingly getting poorer they probably dont want to do that. Best crash control they can do is release a "new monitor" "2407g" (for graphic design series or something) that has all the fixed hardware issues. This way all us 2407 owners get "messed over" over because dell doesnt have to admit they are wrong and everyone gets excited about the new 2407. then in a year they can phase out the old 2407 or pretend its a budget version.
thats my two cents. Mind you, if they do end up doing that I will scream bloody murder until I get a replacment.
If it is a hardware issue (ChrisM please verify if it is a hardware issue or a firmware bug), then I would HOPE that Dell would release a A03 version of the LCD with an updated hardware...
At that time, I would also hope that Dell would take exchanges of the A02 for the A03 version.
you have a right to an a03 even if you have 1 day left on your warranty. and even have entitlement to a full refund by law after your 14-day trial becuase they have sold you a product that does not work according to advertised. so regardless of policy or agreement you can get full refund or replacement anytime.
well according to some guy he rang dell and was informed there WILL be a A03 but unsure of when..
So hearing this i rang dell yesterday, and spoke to someone over at technical support, and she said that there will be a A03 but they don't know when as that is up to manufacturer..... ChrisM how does tech support know about this but you don't? can you maybe ask around and see why these people are telling us that there is to be A03? are they just lying to us lol?

lol i am not saying that they will easily refund or replace it. but if you push your case and take it up to small claims or fair trading offices...then yes you will 99.9% get your refund/replacement. but having said that i'm sure dell will cover you, otherwise push your case.
Alright... so beyond a little bit of anger here... Chris, here are three questions that we would all love to have answered:
(1) Will there be an A03 version of the 2407WFP (before answering this, read above posts about technical supports replies... and confer with other divisions of Dell)?
(2) If there is an update, revision to the 2407WFP (esp. one that specifically addresses problems with banding/gradients) will current owners of the A02 be able to exchange it for the newer version with no hassle to go through?
(3) My question now... is this a hardware-only issue, or firmware-only or mix (for gradient problem)? Either way though, why do all the Dell posts and website claim that it is "fixed" by just disabling some software on only ONE of the viewing modes? I am an optical engineer and I understand some of the technical difficulties involved, but I would never release a product, then acknowledge a defect, and simply stamp it as fixed by disabling some code in only a part of the way the monitor can be operated. Banding (esp. vertical) is still an issue in desktop mode, and nothing has been done to correct the other viewing modes at all.
Please answer this as thoroughly as you can Chris, thank you!
ok so what I need to know is will I be able to get revision A03? I have A02 right now and I am on my 15 day trial. I can definately return it right now because of all these issues. but if I keep it past the 15 days do I still have a right to the A03?
twalkman it was originally enabled in all 3 modes...
if this banding is meant to be a by product then by now dell would have told us this. Also if this banding is meant to be caused by the ACC/ACM technology being enabled then this "vibrant colour feature" is doing alot more damage than good.... why was the technology even passed? it's useless if you ask me. having said that there still is noticeable ugly banding even in desktop mode (with acm acc turned off) in newer games. try some games, preferably prey and condemned if you can get them somehow....
Sounds like an A03 revision is more hearsay than fact at this point -- so it might be a bit early to give Chris a lashing over it.
Also, if you go to the company's website that makes ACC/ACM technology -- they state that "banding" is one of the by-products of their attempts to make the color more vibrant.
So, it might make sense that it would only be turned on for gaming and entertainment functions - not in all modes.
Btw, the A02 I received last week has very subtle banding -- a good way to see it is with the "diamond" pattern gradiant in Photoshop since it throws the gradiant in all directions.
I'm in the same boat. I would be happy to hang onto my A02 if I could get an A03 replacement if and when they come out, or even better, a home flash kit (on CD, or maybe at a local Dell retailer? Not sure what's involved).
It sounds like if people are being told that an A03 is forthcoming, either it's true or Dell is trying a last resort to quell the masses before they go bankrupt or something, which I don't think is very likely.
So, I am hopefully awaiting any light Chris can shed on this. =)

* I have spoken with Product Group and noone is mentioning an A03.

* Within the warranty period you may request an exchange.
