You must first install the sigmentel drivers and then overlay the soundblaster software.. If you had asked dell for a reinstallation cd the windows media center edition is a glorified windows xp pro... If you have home then I might see maybe purchaseing..

ward, you are right but there is another step.

Seal, after you do an OS installation on an Inspiron, you should next install Dell Notebook System Software (find it under System & Configuration Utilities), then Intel Mobile Chipset (find under Chipset), then the audio and other drivers. Find all of these on your downloads page. (I'd put in a link here to your page but I don't see your model name.)

[Tip from rpilT2005: If still having problems installing the audio driver, check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it, under the "System Devices" grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find a driver.]

You might try installing the system software and chipset now and it will probably work, but if not you should redo the OS install and put everything else in in order.

Then as ward said make sure the Sigmatel integrated audio is working before installing the Creative software.

Did you first install Dell Notebook System Software (find it under System & Configuration Utilities), then Intel Mobile Chipset (find under Chipset)?

Then did you follow the tip from rpilT2005? (If still having problems installing the driver, check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it, under the "System Devices" grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find a driver.)

As I said, you might have to redo the entire OS install if you are still having problems.
