Are all computers set to use DHCP (obtain an IP address automatically) or have you assigned IP addresses to each network card.   With a router, you should use DHCP and make sure that DHCP is enabled on the router.

They are set to automatically obtain their IP.

Are all computers connected to this router Windows ME computers or do you have some computers that can connect throught the router by wireless?  Is the router connected to a cable or to a dsl modem?

I have 2 XP laptops that connect to the router via wifi plus a XP desktop that is wired to the router. No problems with network or internet. I also have an ME laptop that works fine using a netgear .b card, but when I tried to install the CompUsa .g card I ran into the same problem (network ok but no internet). When a program would crash I would get an error message like "Firefox has cause an error in (unknown)." When I uninstalled the card and driver I continued to have internet problem. Had to use system restore to get the system usable again.

I suspect that there is a problem with the drivers for the CompUSA branded wireless cards.  Have you searched for updated drivers?

as I was reading this I wondered if you have (I think its) netbios or netbeui enabled? This is coming up from the depths of my memory but I seem to remember one or both have to be enabled to let ME work with XP?

I am using the latest driver from the Realtek website.

The ME systems talk to the XP systems on the network just fine. I can transfer files between computers easily. The problems only arrise when I try to access the internet.
