Numlock / number pad problem with the Latitude D610 ?

Question

Is it operator error or a design flaw?   Using the D610, I want to be able to use the number pad (the blue numbers on the right side of the laptop's keyboard) for inputting numbers.  Just like I can with a desktop PCs number pad.  I understand numlock on a standard keyboard will switch between the numbers and the arrows.  set correctly, I can type numbers all day with the one hand on that keypad.   but on the d610, it seems that you have to hold down the fn key to get numbers (or arrows depending on numlock being on or off).  is there an fn lock so that I can use just the numbers (yeah, and either disable the rest of the keyboard or leave me with a keyboard that would not have an m, j, etc. keys because they would type numbers.  Other machines - compaqs that I have - can do this (let me have the 9 key number pad working without the need to hold down the fn key).  is this need to hold the fn a quirk of this model or all dell laptops?  using an external keyboad, I do get the expected configuration like a desktop keyboard.  but I need numbers when using the laptops built in keyboard.   thanks!

Dell set the default to require the Fn + Numlock as too many people were inadvertantly enabling Numlock, then calling about keyboard problems.

You can check the system setup & see if there is an option to change the Numlock function, most systems have it

What about the numbers on top? I dont think you can change the FN keys.
