sport45,

Just a little more information for you. The Pentium M, and Pentium 4-M are completely different processors. The Pentium 4-M is a Pentium 4 that has been modified for use in portable systems. The Pentium M was designed from the beginning as a portable system processor, and the speeds of the two processors are drastically difference. The Pentium M will perform as well as a Pentium 4-M that runs at 1.5 to 2 times the speed of the Pentium M. You will not get better performance with a Pentium 4-M, even if it were possible to put one in your system.

You can compare the two on Intel's site, at

http://www.intel.com/products/laptop/processors/index.htm

I just wish they would not call them laptops.

You might also want to note that the Inspiron 8500 used the Pentium 4-M, and the 8600 used the Pentium M.
