Received 2007FP - Rev A02 LM201xxx And First Impressions

Question

Ordered on 9/8/06.  Received on 9/18/06.   Back of monitor has label indicating that it's Rev A02 - Made in Mexico.   I confirmed that the monitor I received is an LM201xxx S-IPS panel based on info in this thread:      http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=63448&view=by_date_ascending&page=2   My initial impressions are very favorable.  I ordered this monitor, sight unseen, and I have to say my expectations have been met - and more.   The monitor seems well made right down to the base.  It looks excellent.  DVI-D input looks superior to VGA.  Colors, text, blacks are all excellent.  TV, movies, and photos look great.  Menus are easy to navigate.  Cable connections are easily made.  Cable routing is simple but functional and has a neat appearance.  No problems with driver installation.    I'm not sure about running in native 1600 x 1200 resolution.  Text becomes awfully small.  1280 x 1024 res may not be as sharp but text is easier to read because of the slightly larger size.   I'm switching this monitor between a desktop with an ATI video card and a laptop.  It looks good on both machines.   It may not be perfect but so far I'm very satisfied.

You have banding? i have revision A02 right now and i discovered I have severe banding problems.

Nicholas.B   No banding that I can detect.    I see in your profile that you have the WFP model.  Mine is an FP.   The only adjustment that I made to the monitor was to lower the brightness to just over 1/3 and I dropped the contrast a bit.   I also changed my Control Panel>Display setting to increase the DPI of objects on the screen . . . less eye strain for me. Message Edited by ArnoldZy on 09-22-2006 06:20 AM

Yes, widescreens are pretty cool.   The 2007FP has a larger viewing area, though.    With the WFP you gain .9' in width but you lose 1.4' in screen height.  That's a net loss of nearly 13 square inches for the widescreen.

I don't own one but that statement seems very hard to believe given that both are 20'+ corner to corner. Other monitors 20' & 20'wide side by side don't show what you have said about the dell. Maybe a dell characteristic - don't think so somehow. cheers

Check the specs.  The manuals for both monitors are available on the Dell website.  Look up the numbers for the display area.  Multiply the horizontal number x the vertical number and you'll get the total area in square inches.    If I remember correctly the FP screen is 16.1' and the WFP is 17' measured horizontally.
