Hi all,

After struggling and wondering about its cause i've just ended up here... seems that my problem isn't as unique as i thought...

It started suddenly with flickering lines and now i have a 1 inch wide vertical white bar on the left side on my screen, tried an external monitor, but it's not there, so... here we are, now what? new screen?

Unfortunately I just now found this forum and the direct2dell thread about it.  I'm about 90 days out of this "3 year window" they're talking about (regardless of warrantee). They refuse to help me.  I'm so disappointed and frustrated -- I never want to do business with Dell ever again.  Here's a message I posted on the direct2dell blog mentioned above.....

ATTN:  Lionel Menchaca   - is there  any chance that you can help me???  I'm so frustrated and I'm at a point where I never want to do business with DELL again.

I just now found out about this website and this known problem. I purchased my Inspiron 9200 on 12/12/204.  I've had vertical lines developing since August 2007 (within my 3 year window). Now I have 32 lines and my laptop is becoming nearly un-usable.  Unfortunately, as you can see, I didn't know about this offer from DELL until NOW - it is currently March 28, 2008 and they are telling me the refuse to help me because I am outside the 3 year window.

I called DELL @ 1-800-624-9896, and reached analysts in India. I provided this URL and they read the article and became aware of this known problem.  They admitted the article was legitimate, that they were in fact replacing these LCDs for free with this known defect, but that they could absolutely (under no circumstances) help me - because I'm outside my 3 year window. I was transferred around 4 different times, to every supervisor I could find, and they all resounded with finality that they would not and could not help me.   I asked to transferred to USA (I live in California) and they said they had no queue in USA to transfer me to and insisted I would only end up back in India if they transferred me. They refused to give me a  direct contact number in the USA, other than the "no-warranty-support-department" number published on www.DELL.com .

Is there anything at all I can do here? My case ID from today is XXXXXX-XXX and my name is Kyle Whitlow. I don't even mind providing my phone number in this public forum - you can contact me at XXX.XXX.XXXX .     My laptop is nearing un-usable status as more and more lines are appearing each week.  I promise you that this problem occurred well within my 3 year window.  I paid $2600 for this laptop back in 2004, and only 3.5 years later it's almost worthless.  I just want my screen replaced (would prefer to do it myself, honestly, if they would mail me the LCD as I've heard others have done - I don't trust sending my laptop to DELL, after seeing how they handle people on the phone).    Please help if you can, Thank you very much -- Kyle."

Nothing needs to be done to Motherboard or driver or graphic card. I have inspiron 9300 which i bought in August 2005. It is out of warranty and i started seeing vertical lines on the screen. i was gonna buy the lcd on ebay for 150 bucks. but then i read an article and found out that this issue is covered by Dell even if its out of warranty. I called Dell support (on hold for 30 min) and mentioned to the tech about this article on dell forums about vertical lines on LCD for inspiron 9300. first the tech hesitated then he put me on hold for around 15 min and talked to manager who approved the free replacement of the lcd scree. Manager told me its a known issue but doesn't happen a lot and there is a recall for this issue. They sent me a prepaid return label and box, i sent my laptop today and they promised it'll be back in 7-10 business days and they will replace the screen for no charge at all. Tech told me to take hard drive out but include the battery and power adapter in the box which i did and he gave me dispatch number and case number for tracking of the case and laptop. Now just waiting for the laptop to come back.

Hey, I have been dealing with the vertical line problem for a couple of years. I purchased my inspiron 9300 in 2005 and have been looking at fix options for a long time I was going to do the ebay thing and when I came to the dell web site to get the monitor spec. I found this Thread................................OMG!!!! I am HOLD, on the phone with them now...........................Loooooooong story short, After being told about the three year window deal I proceeded to FLIP THE FREAK OUT and ask for a manager. They are now sending out a technician to fix my laptop Free of charge. Sorry for the weird post but the adrenalin bump has got me going.

BE PERSISTANT WITH THEM IT WAS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT THEY SOLD US.

Good luck:emotion-2:

Just be sure you realize that the longest warranty you can get from Apple is three years - nothing longer.

Given that Apple's hardware is about the same as Dell's in reliability, your odds of needing the warranty are the same.

I bought my dell insperin 9300 In April 2005 and experienced the same thing

that everyone else has. The lines started apperaing and then finally the whole

screen went down. I was persistant with Dell and they finally relented and sent

me a new screen.

Now fast forward to 11/2010 and I am having the same problem again. I have just

about had it with Dell. In fact, I am looking at purchasing a new Macbook Pro.

Good luck everyone:emotion-1:
