The Sigmatel STAC92XX driver is your actual sound driver. The Creative software is just that, software enhancement for your audio, and isn't neccessary for basic functionality. It improves the audio.
If the Sigmatel driver does not work for you, then run the Dell hardware diagnostics on bootup.
That was it thank you. One minor thing is left. I installed the Creative software after succesfully installing the Sigmatel drivers and I have no visible Creative enhancements like pre-format. No Creative Media Player or any of that stuff. I am off for the night so I will try to get online tomorrow if possible. Once again thanks for the help.
The Creative "driver" download on Dells support site does not contain the "integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio" software suite. I believe you need to get a replacement CD from Dell for that software. I may be incorrect about this, but my understanding is that if you lose or discard that CD, since it is software and not "drivers", you will need to pay for another one.
Seeing as how Dell supports our guys in the armed forces, they may try to get you another one anyway. Good Luck.
