They might as well have sent u an A01
I have the A01 and A02 and I see the same banding on them
The only difference is my A02 stand doesnt slope
I dont know what else they fixed to make this a revision
The only difference from A02 and the original A00
Is text blur is gone and 1 mode has reduced banding
I cant see any reson for them fixing only 1 mode
And not even doing that properly
Other than its the cheapest fix
Cross fingers most people wont notice
And the rest they will be replaceing the moniters down the track anyways
This is the problems still in the A02
Severe banding in 2 modes
Noticable banding in 1 mode
I use duel moniters
For any compressed image like jpg, gif the banding becomes very noticable
Any image with a simple gradient looks banded
But its a diffent type of banding between the DVI and VGA moniter
How can u know if what you are looking at is actualy banded or not
Which makes designing a site very difficult when trying to minimise image file sizes
I dont think thats aceptable for a moniter made in 2006
There are standards for banding tests
And this montier fails those tests
Is that not enough for dell to fix it?
To have this type of fault at all
Especialy after A00,A01,A02 chances to fix it
Settings will not save for any modes including pip inputs
Forced stretch ratio for 1600x1200 (why?)
DVI dhcp not possible for 1080i/p
Low qual component input
2405 owners report their image quality is superior and no banding
Every one of my moniters has dead pixels so far ived check 4 out of 7 moniters
3 of thos moniters had sloping stands
Those were A01 models
Lets see if the A03 finaly addresses the issues
I was going to ask for a refund at the time i got the A01
But after the month wait in delivery
Just as my moniter arrived
I heard about the A02
So instead of a refund
I chose to swap for an A02
But then the forums had feedback on the A02
That it still had all the same problems
So I said to dell instead of wasting moniters
Ill wait for an A03
Time passed
Right now dell tell me
The A03 will not be comeing to Australia
So i said
Ok send tme the A02 replacements
If you pay return shipping
You are paying for a second hand moniter that dell had someone else pay to ship to them
So the only cost to dell would be 1 delivery to you
And the cost to repair a second hand moniter which they would have had to have done anyways
After having made the original moniter with inherent problems
And what do u get... for price of a new one a second hand moniter
With new revision sticker that still insnt fixed
I wouldnt be suprised if dell owned the courier company anyways
So that 1 extra shipment cost would be just like paying themselfs
I dont like that dells own workers still think the A02 is perfect with no known problems
I heard the same thing when i ordered my A01 and asked about problems known in the A00
Now there is a A03 well
Any image with a simple gradient looks banded, not with desktop in A03.
VGA no noticeable banding.
“Which makes designing a site very difficult when trying to minimize image file sizes
I don’t think that’s acceptable for a monitor made in 2006”
It’s not, it’s a manufacturers defect and all monitors that were purchased as new and defective should be replaced with new monitors not refurb’s.
I would not recommend A02’s for web design, Photoshop experts and graphics artists, CAD CAM at all. A03’s for the above professions you have to understand that other variables can cause banding also so read below, “You might find this interesting:”
When I come back to PIP or the video input selection it’s on component where I left it, even though I unplugged the component cord. I guess that’s fixed.
“Forced stretch ratio for 1600x1200 (why?)” I think someone posted a work around, some games will open in a 1600x1200 window and I think some follow aspect or 1:1.
Chip doesn’t support 1080P as I read here. Some say XBOX360 is good thru VGA at 720P.
DVD thru component looks good at 480P, have to adjust it to get it good.
“2405 owners report their image quality is superior and no banding”
Slower panel but no excuse for taking one-step forward then two steps back. A00 should have never left testing with banding, several dither options could have corrected the banding from day one, they are just noise filters.
MORE COMING as I see more:)
One or two dead pixels is considered normal but I detest those dead guys.
You don’t pay return shipping when you waited patiently for a replacement of a defective monitor. You have advanced exchange and they send you a monitor, Dell pays shipping, and you ask for a prepaid return-shipping label to ship back the old defective 2407. These are not monitors that have developed a problem over time they are monitors that were defective from the day they left Dell to you and they knew it before they sold it to you. I was aware of the issues when I bought them and I had confidence Dell would do the correct thing to remedy the issues with new versions. So far so good, just one more to go.
"I dont like that dells own workers still think the A02 is perfect "
That is misleading when you ask a direct question and you are basically misinformed to, but they say they just don't know.
Are the other modes fixed? Not Gaming or Multimedia. Multimedia seems better.
I’m not familiar with the quality of the 2405. No 1080P thru component.
I guess 1080P thru blu-ray PC recorder player would either aspect or 1:1 or, I don’t know why it would down rest to 720P I think not. Some one have a PC blu-ray yetJ AT 700.00 or so not me for a while anyway.
I think that covered most of what you wanted to know.
If you have dead pixels and bad stands, start exchanging for A03’s as soon as you can , corners don’t leak backlight and some other issues are better.
Most of all no banding in desktop, what a relief:)
You might find this interesting:
LCD vertical banding is a flaw that can occur in the manufacturing process of the LCD panels themselves, and some LCD panels will tend to manifest it more noticeably than others. The panels that cause the most visible problems are usually weeded out in the vendor's quality control process.
However, those that create just a hint of banding often pass through QC, since it is prohibitively expensive to discard all parts that exhibit flaws which may have no practical impact on picture quality.
So, we end up with a situation in which some LCD panels, even within a given production run on one model, will have no banding at all, some may have a hint of it that does not rise to the level of a significant issue, and some may have a more visible problem that really does impair the enjoyment of the viewing experience. In the latter case, sometimes the problem can be mitigated with internal adjustments made by the dealer or vendor service departments, and sometimes the LCD panels or the entire unit need to be replaced.
And add DVI out issues, various video cards, overdrive, color contrast chip trade off, all can produce banding to some degree. With all those variables involved, it amazes me that my 2407's A03's look that good.
Dell has some of most loyal and dedicated customers on the planet.
Free a A03’s for everyone:)LOL
Good Day:)
Remember, I'm not in AU or Sweden.

That exchange is true it's whether or not you can get a new echange or a refurb exchange.
The refurb's that were new A02' with a 100 hours are probably newer than what you have now.
A refurb can be better than a new one in the sense it has no dead pixels and a new one can develope several right away. Not cheering for refurb's though, just a thought :)

i just got a response from my dell rep today and she is confirming that i can swap to an A03 once they arrive here (finally)
.As I understand the Dell Warranty -Dell will exchange faulty goods .- The A01 is faulty....the A02 is faulty - so anyone can exchange a monitor within the warranty period. - Or am I wrong/misunderstanding the Extended Warranty ?
On this note.... although the A03 is better - It still has faults (I think, as I dont own one.:smileysad: ).... so, if Dell brings out an A04 etc which fixes more issues will A03 owners be able to exchange them under Warranty?
I hope you(we) dont have toooooooo looooooong to wait before you get an A03
ill be swapping them all for brand new A03rev moniters
im not acepting a refurbished moniter or paying the delivery
i didnt pay for a brand new faulty moniter
to then have it swapped to someones elses 2nd hand fixed moniter
if the A03 have the same issues i will be swap all the A03 for A04
dell should not be selling moniters with known issues
especialy after 3 releases
WHERE IS THE OFFICIAL DELL STATEMENTS FOR REV 00,01,02,03
and the specific information on the known problems and what was addressed in each revision???
dell will/would never officially acknowledge the problem as it would leave them liable publically not just on an individual basis as they are currently with only the more experienced users rightfully objecting.
c0ldaussie wrote - dell will/would never officially acknowledge the problem as it would leave them liable publically not just on an individual basis as they are currently with only the more experienced users rightfully objecting.
Good day btw
You are oh so right about the assumption that a lot, or most, users think that this is the way a cheaper monitor is supposed to be. The same for quite a few manufacturers that have dropped true quality control because of the cost - now they are really laughing their heads off as the amount of faults that should be picked up by the customers are not & this would save them a fortune. You only have to look at a lot of new posts on this forum that should be answered simply by saying - Your monitor has something blatantly wrong with it & you know by posting here - send the thing back:smileymad: Can you imagine since the release of the 2407 & 2007 how many have been sold? I would like to know why all of these were not sent back as they are & were faulty. Even some friends of mine who have A00 & A01 whinge like 'whatever', if I have the hide to suggest their monitors are faulty & won't even go to check. They are friends, but I do not respect their judgements of any goods of any description. I wonder why?:smileysurprised:
cheers

t666 glad you made you way over here to these forums, whirlpool's 2407 thread became a joke, well all of them were a joke, toe cutter defending the 2407 A02 till his least breath hahaha what a fool. All the proof of A02's being problem childs is right here and posting on whirlpool wont provoke DELL into any action.
this is like a aussie thread or what, lots of aussies here, wonder why.......
T666,
Welcome, I’ve read some of your posts at whirlpool,
You wrote: “WHERE IS THE OFFICIAL DELL STATEMENTS FOR REV 00,01,02,03
and the specific information on the known problems and what was addressed in each revision???”
There is one in FAQ’s but it does not reflect what members know here.
Most importantly A03 banding fix for desktop mode “soft dither” option is listed in the service menu.
Ohter fixes better QC, backlight in all four corners, no leaks and so forth, not sayng everyone is perfect cause you know some are just better than others.
c0ldaussie,
I’ve also seen some of your posts at whirlpool, welcome.
KevinR100,
A defective anything is just plain wrong and should be exchanged. I agree, some people don’t know any better and some don’t care.
ArchAnge1,
Someone posted in another thread, they were promised an A03 In AU. Told them to get it in writing:) Dell shipping to AU and Sweden should be soon, they have to replace the A02, A01 and A00’s.
can u store settings for each mode, although i still wont use the other modes if they have the banding
i want a less bright windows desktop, but a brighter game and tv mode...
altering brightness levels amongst any other setting each time
you alter your application is stupid when u have modes that should store these settings...
do they now store???
the only problem is its very awkward to menu thru to the mode switch also
but still beter than altering various other settings each time
so after empty promises of replacement in 2days only to be told Aus has only refurb models, im hearing from people in my city they are receiving new screens only A02's but still either Dell is lieing to me or these people don't know how to tell a refurb from a new...Also the Dell tech assigned to my case has stopped responding to my last 3 emails, all just requesting some type of ETA, nice to see Dell customer service at its best...8-)
Hey man call department of fair trading and log your complaint
If dell dont honour the agreement i have with them i will certainly be calling also
The system works based on a collection of complaints to vaildate an issue
Although that is not required to have them help you
You can point them to various forums for evidence also
So far dell have been very helpful to me
I have A01 and A02 moniters and are awaiting 'new' A03 replacements for all of them
I have requested that in email and verbaly discused that with them
Regarding 'second hand' or 'refurbished' moniter replacements
Dell were made aware from the start i expected new moniter replacements
As the issues with the moniters were known by dell and existed at the point of sale
They cant subsequently offer u a second hand moniter in replacement
For what should have been correctly working new moniter in the first instance
If you want to first try call person at dell i am dealing with i can give u his extension
peace
