After 1&1/2 hours online and phone with Dell, they were unable to resolve the problem and said it was a Microsoft issue. Then a family member advised doing a system restore which I did to a date before the problem started and that fixed it.

I had the same problem about a month and a half ago and contacted Dell, a guy which I suspect was offshore, India maybe took me to the validation page on the Microsoft website and helped me validate it, he actually took control of my PC remotely.  It worked fine for about six weeks and now it doesn't work again and the MS website will not let me do it again.  I think it is a Dell issue and for them to tell you it is a MS issue is a bit disengenuous, they installed it and should stand by it.  I don't want to have to wait on hold for 1 hour or more to get it fixed again!!!!
