Optiflex E176FP Doing random 'auto adjusts'

Question

I think I;ve spotted this one before, but no answers were forthcoming.  I'm hoping someone will have one now.   My Optiflex E176FP LCD display worked fine for the first 3 months, attached to an ASUS system  (ASUS P4S800MX motherboard, with SiS built-in AGP).   All of a sudden, it has decided to 'auto adjust' at frequent intervals.  It does it immediately at boot-up.  This is problematic, since the 'auto adjust' message hogs the screen and I can't see the BIOS or POST screens.   Then, as WinXP Sp2 loads, it will launch an 'auto adjust' 4 to 5 times.   It finally stabilizes when Windows is fully loaded and settled in.   I have tried rolling back the system - - - - no luck.   I have tried the latest drivers ( although I think I already had them) - - - no luck.   At the request of Tech Support, I set the display to 1280 x 1024 at 60hz (the optimum), but that makes no difference, and it's way too small for my personal vision capabilities.   2 Tech Support calls both resulted in the same 'answer' - - - - it's perfectly normal.   It's not perfectly normal, else it would have been doing it on day one.     (By the way, I took the 15' Optiflex from my wife's Dell and hooked it up to my system----it worked perfectly.)   I believe the monitor is bad, and I'd like to send it back for a replacment.  But, because I bought it as a peripheral ( and paid extra for a 3-year warranty), I can't get an RMA number, since Tech Support doesn't believe it's bad.  (First thaey have to agree that there is a problem.)   Outside of driving up to Austin (75 miles for me) and barging into the sales office, I don't know how to solve this.  Checking old threads, I see that others have encountered this.  Has anyone solved it yet?   I've considered buying one of the powerful  256mb graphics cards, but I'm not sure that would give me any better results.   chuck r.

Bronze,  I am having the same problem.  It may have been related to installing Internet Explorer 7.0.  I have not found a fix either and it is driving me crazy.   I saw a post somewhere saying to turn of the computer before you hit turn off the last time, the screen turns gray.  They said to press the plus key on your monitor several times while screen is gray.   I tried it and it did not work.   Please let me know if you solved this.

mrlim:   I did solve it, but the hard way.  the problem intensified, and the 'auto adjust' kept kicking with no coaching from me about every 10 minutes or so.   Tech support was very good about giving me things to try.  When, in the midst of a 25 minute tech support call, the 'auto adjust' kicked in about 4 times during that call, tech support finally agreed that----at least in my case----it was a hardware problem.   they have sent me a refurbished replacement monitor.  (I had bought it with the 3 year warranty).   The new one works fine.  they were very gracious about it.     chuck r.
