Dell 1815dn memory compatible with Dell 1700 ?

Question

I have just received a Dell 1815dn multifunction printer with 128Mb optional RAM. The RAM arrived uninstalled and I had to remove the 32Mb that was already in the slot and replaced it with the 128Mb. Works fine. I then took the 32Mb that was previously in the 1815dn and inserted it into the empty slot in a Dell 1700 laser printer (16Mb on board). However the 1700 still indicates 16Mb (from the printed info page) and doesn't seem to recognize the additional 32Mb and strangely I don't get any error message. Can anyone tell me if the 1815dn RAM is compatible with the 1700 and if yes, how do I get it to be recognized ? Thanks for your answers !

Crucial sells ram of equal specs for both printers so I would assume that it should work...  you might make sure it's seated properly

I have checked several times and the RAM is correctly seated. Shouldn't there be any error indication if the RAM wasn't compatible ?

don't know ... can't say that i've ever had a problem with printer ram
