Had a quick try today. It looks good but: you are stuck on Fill so gets stretched to 1920x1200 and you can't select 1:1 pixel mapping as that option is disabled It also seems to suffer from strange faint horizontal lines going across the screen (doesn't seem to happen on my other monitors)
Oh, thats really a letdown. I hope it's not too bad. I just ordered one of the 2407s today so I could play GOW on the 360 in 1080p. I also got the monitor for my computer but mainly for GOW.
i also will verify the stretching, although its not too bad since its only stretching 120 pixels...it almost looks normal. my pixel ratio options are greyed out, too.
i do not get lines on my screen.
other than that, it looks great. i have yet to try component (why would we, right? lol), but i will tonight. you never know what might happen!
Alright, I did some testing with the Xbox 360 @ 1080p
Stretching: Yes, through VGA, it will stretch the picture to fit the screen. Nothing you can do about it.
Component: The 2407fpw does not accept 1080p through component. Signal out of range.
Horizontal lines: They are there, but they can be fixed by changing the "sharpness" option in the Display Settings menu. Turning mine down to 30 sharpness got rid of the lines completely. Problem is, as soon as you switch back to your DVI input to use your computer, it will reset the display settings for VGA. So when you go back to playing 360, the lines are back, and you have to set the sharpness again. Sweet.
Picture Quality: It is very very good. Looks awesome once you fix the sharpness. Really s that it has to stretch the image though.
All in all, it's a dissapointment. I was really excited to be running my 360 at 1080p, but alas, the 2407 has failed. Between the image stretching, and the display settings not saving, looks like I will be going back to 720p. I was going to pick up the HD-DVD player for the 360 as well, but I guess I wont be needing that now...
Well, I probably wont be switching back and forth like that very often so I guess it works for me so that sounds fine then. I'm glad that it looks good. I can't wait for my monitor to arrive!
Dell is typically pretty fast at shipping the monitors, right? I just ordered mine this morning at around 8AM. Do you think it will ship today?
i am in the same boat.
why can't the bloody monitor just do 1:1 and remember settings properly.
although i played dead rising and the mild stretching wasn't even noticeable.
yes the lines are there on A03. the 30 sharpness fixes it.
i'm currently looking for other configurations that maintain a good picture without lowering the sharpness.
Thanks for the excellent wrap-up, Altdelete and Nipterink.
I've got the exact same problem - the horizontal lines that sharpness 30 setting fixes - but I use my 360 on the VGA and my HTPC via DVI, so I jump between those two and component all the time and lose the settings. A solution to the sharpness problem would make the 360 pretty much perfect - I don't mind the 120px streching, it's really not that bad.
I'm not familiar with the service mode settings, is there a way to lower sharpness permanently over there?
What I'm really disappointed with is that 2405fpw owners say that they can run 1920x1080 with 1:1 mapping. How on earth did Dell manage to gimp our 2407s so totally?

yeah. you would think they would release a new firmware to download to fix it.
although, i believe that new benq 24inch has the same 1:1 mapping problem for 1920x1080... *sigh*

Well, I can confirm that I'm seeing the same thing as the others on my 2407 A02 using the Xbox 360 VGA cable. It looks like it would be awesome if it didn't force "Fill" mode. I picked up the VGA cable today just for this (without checking for a forum thread first, of course), but I don't know if I want to use my 360 at 1920x1080 anymore, since there's not really any point in "higher definition" if you're just going to stretch the image (and distort the aspect ratio/stretch pixels) anyway.
Hopefully Dell has some intent to address this issue, as I'm sure most people picked this monitor instead of the competition (at the time) due to the range of multimedia inputs available.
Dell continues to act like there is nothing wrong with their 2407. Its bad enough that the component input is a complete and total waste of space, but the VGA port doesn't even work right. Funny thing is, all the 2405 owners are enjoying their xbox 360 games in UNSTRETCHED 1080p via both component and VGA, with no problems. GOOD JOB DELL! Ya took a great monitor and made it a whole lot worse. But hey, at least the response time is a few milliseconds faster.
