Inspiron 8000 misc keys on keyboard don't work

Question

I changed out my keyboard and this didn't fix the problem.  I tightened the screws as i read on other boards.  Also someone suggested that the RF cage over the processor was to blaim.  I tried to put glass tape over it to see.  This didn't work either.  The keys i can tell that do not respond are line by line: 2  Backspace  tab  W  T  Y  [  ]  CapLock  S  LeftShift  X     every other key seems to work.  Any idea's?  The keyboard I tried was from Dell so i'm pretty sure it wasn't bad. Is there any virus that can cause this? Does an external keyboard work normally?   If you replaced the keyboard that is a known good, you're looking at a motherboard replacement

Is there no common tie for these keys that don't work? If i plug a external Keyboard into the computer that one works fine.

The common tie is the connector on the motherboard to the keyboard controller.  If the contacts are damaged or the traces damaged from the connector to the controller, then you have keys that don't work.   You could spend the $25 to $50 to buy a NEW keyboard from spare parts  800-372-3355, if that doesn't work you can RMA it & I'd get used to the external keyboard till you can afford a replacement system.
