Problem Details: I purchased a Canon MP830 printer with USB connection to my Inspiron 8000. When I attempt to print, nothing prints. I spoke with Canon and the printer is fine and is set up fine on the laptop. They believe it's a USB issue on the laptop and said I need to find a USB driver update. I can print to the printer fine using my Dell Optiplex GX1, so the printer works fine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Have you used the usb ports for anything else?

With nothing in them, go into Device Manager and uninstall all of them, then reboot.

Yes, they work with everything else that I regularly attach...external hard drive, thumb drive, digital camera, my old scanner, CD burner, digital camcorder.  Canon seems to think I need an update to my USB driver and kept mentioning something about the USB port not supplying enough power for the printer.

I removed the USB through Device Manager and rebooted. This did not resolve the problem. Canon also mentioned something about the heading under USB that reads, "Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller." They said this is not the typical driver in Windows 2000.  Are they correct?
