For your applications, an E1705 is the bare minimum - and you'd be better off with a desktop than a notebook. If you go for a notebook, I'd consider a Precision mobile workstation, not an Inspiron. If the budget won't stretch that far, buy a desktop - it's far faster and more upgradeable.

I think you chose well with the 1505.  The WSXGA+ screen is 1680 x 1050 and believe me...(I have the same machine with a 120 GB 5400rpm HDD)...the visuals are razor sharp.  I enjoy this laptop no matter what I do with it.   The 1705 is a bare minimum version as configured...where you loaded the 1505 with most of the best you can put into it.  I think you are fine with the 1505...just my $.02

As long as you realize you're buying a system that has no upgrade potential (you're at the max for RAM, and that's the best video card you can get for that model), and you realize it's not a video editing platform of any caliber, it's probably a decent deal.

I would give serious consideration to upgrading to a 3-year warranty - notebooks are expensive to repair and about 1/5 of all of them have a major failure within a normal 3-year useful lifetime.

Hi,

Nice system, nice specs. I have an E1505 and absolutely love it. I couldn't agree more with EJN63, buy the 3yr. next day warranty and also add the 3yr. complete care. A faulty screen after warranty will cost a nice chunk of change, and if a motherboard decides to go haywire, you'll be looking at a costly repair. Invest in the warranty if at all possible. Best of Luck!

Wait, so the new specs? is that not fast enough? and powerful for video editing???

If not, whats a  good laptop system, that is upgradeble, and has good video editing capabilities?

I cant go over $1400

i mean i already have a desktop,  thats from 2002, a Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 1.80ghz,  with 768 MB of ram, and no video card, it runs okay, but def not for video editing,

Im hoping this loaded new laptop . will be alot faster then my desktop computer

the last PC i found that fit my budget for 1300, and seems to allow more ram, and a bigger video card, is this Dimesion 9200, SO please tell me once, between the laptop, and the other 2 Pc systems i posted above, is this 1 by far the best for video editing? Will it make a big difference? from the laptop

FYI
I just purchased the exact same box as you. Exception XP Pro.
Price $1540.00 before t & s

The ram fried within the second day. Just got it back up 24 hrs ago.
This now runs a lot cooler.

This is to replace 1 t2500 with 1 g ram and 5200 rpm hd. The old one (3 months) was keeping me waiting to much.
Which replaced a pentium m 770 or 760

I just want a machine to last me for a couple of years.
All business stuff.  No games at all.

I think it will work for me.

Keeping 2 desktops (home and office) synced was too much of a pain.

I'm looking forward to using it.
