Could be an accumulation of dust, or could be a faulty fan - either way, you need to isolate and fix the cause, or you will soon have a totally dead notebook.

Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with dust or dirt. The computer is clean.

If I disconnect the network cable, the computer goes into standby. If I don't disconnect the network cable, it doesn't (it just looks like it has).

Thanks anyway,

Check the BIOS setup to make sure wake on LAN isn't on.

DUN, Dun, dun

Well, it appears to have nothing to do with the network connection. Checked 'wake on lan'--it was off. Also, upgraded to A14 for the bios.

Played around a little more, and have narrowed it down to my Logitech mouse. When it is plugged in, no standby. When I unplug it, standby as usual. Unfortunately, unplugging the mouse after the laptop has gone into faux standby does nothing.

Tried some other mice, and they didn't cause the same problem.

So, if you have a Logitech MX510, be a little careful. I'm going to try some new drivers, and see if that solves the problem.

Also, just incase it makes a difference, the power led (the 1rst led on the left side of the 4-led bank) blinks every 1.5 seconds for .25 seconds (.25 seconds on, then 1.5 seconds off).

Check out this thread to see if it is any help. Sounds very similar to your problem.

It's really nice when the problem is so easy, isn't it?
