If the system is running normally, then NSS is likely not going to be an issue. If you have some questions on how it is performing, runa system restore to before you installed the drivers, then install NSS, then Chipset, then Video, no order after that.
If the system shipped without a wireless card, there will be no antenna for an INTERNAL wireless device. You have options to use either a USB wireless or a PCMCIA wireless adapter with no range or performance hits.
Thank you for your time. I guess I was not as successful as I thought... I also neglected to put the QuickSet software on there... From what I've read, I need that???? Is that the software that allows the blue function keys to perform their tasks?
That is too bad about the antenna. Dell's manual says that, "In some cases, if an internal wireless card was not ordered with the computer, it may not have an antenna...."
I was hoping that meant that it was possible in some cases that they did in fact have the antenna. I do, though, have a PCMCIA wireless card for an old Inspiron 1100 that has no built in wireless - not even available as an option when the machine was new. I could share that card, or just buy another one - cheaper I guess and easier to install, though usage is not as convenient.
Sorry to sound so new.... Ipassed onthe QuickSet but did install thew System Software.
I pulled up the keyboard, and their does appear to be an antenna connection - it is a white cable with the end wrapped inslear plastic. According to Dell's online manual, that is the antenna.
I am looking at putting a card in there. Does the antenna connect to an antenna connection on the wireless card - I am leaning towards a Dell wireless 1470 card.

Yes, the antenna connects to the card as shown in the documentation that dageezerus referred you to.
I don't see what documentation dageezerus has referred me to....
The only manuals I've seen on it simply say to "Connect the antenna cable to the mini PCI card."
Here is an example of what I've seen:

Anyway, Rick, is it an easy thing? I've done small things (optical drives, hard drives, and such), and figure I was able to get into the laptop under the keyboard to look down there, so this should be no biggie, but you never know. Is the antenna connector a slip connector, or does it screw on or ????

It clips on, and I'm of the belief that there is a cable in there regardless of whether wireless was installed or not. Some models need a short cable to go from the wireless card to the antenna cable that you'd have to buy.
