Cad_man,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try setting the monitor to its optimal resolution to see if that will help resolve the issue you are having with the monitor.

For optimal monitor performance while using Microsoft® Windows® operating systems, set the display resolution to 1280 x 1024 pixels by performing the following steps:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Display icon in the Control Panel window, and then click the Settings tab.
  3. In the Desktop area, move the slidebar to 1280 x 1024 pixels. Then click OK.

This sounds like the same thing that is happening to my P992.  This happened yesterday when it was first turned on in the morning and later at night when it was coming out of sleep mode.  It was blurry, then you heard a click and it was ok, then it did the same thing again.  I turned it off because it didn't seem right.   So far today it hasn't happend.  I have a NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400.  The display settings were not at 1280x1024 pixels, but when I changed that everything is too small to read, for me at least!  HELP!

Did you get any resolution on your monitor problem with Dell? We are having the same problem and have had ours for 22 months. Dell has basically told us to fix it at our own cost or buy a new one!!!! Seems like quite a few of us here are having the same problem. Is Dell not owning up to a defective monitor line?????

If your warranty hasn't expired, Dell has to take it and fix it. If your warranty is expired, you have to fix it at your own cost. That's the basic idea of "warranty" ;)

I had a similar problem with my iiyama monitor. After 2 years of completely flawless operation, it suddenly showed the quirks which you guys mentioned.

It was blurry for a minute or two (all the while making a "hissing" sound), then clicked and was sharp. This monitor had a warranty period of three years, so I called iiyama and they repaired it.

I have exactly the same problem.

My first P1130 gave this problem after two weeks. Dell replaced it.

My second P1130 gave this problem after two years. Dell refuses to replace it: they claim the warranty has expired.

THIS WHILE CURRENTLY, the same monitor is offered with 3 years of guarantee.

I am greatly disappointed at Dell's service. This is obviously a manufacturing flaw and I can't understand why Dell refuses to take responsibility for this.

If Dell doesn't change their mind soon (I have issued a third ticket about this problem), this will be the very last order I've ever made at Dell.
