Viewing XPS and e1505 outside

Question

My work laptop is an XPS m1710. I can take it outside and still be able to see it in certain conditions. Then I put my e1505 alongside it and couldn't see it at all. The e1505 has the bottom line xga monitor because I didn't want the glossy screen. The specs though I think are about the same. Both are 300:1 contrast and the e1505 has 180 brightness while the XPS has 185 (correct me if I'm wrong). SO my question is what is it that makes the XPS easier to see outside?
