Thanks!. I tried Asio4all and Sonar crashed... nevertheless I found what I was doing wrong and finally worked with the standard driver (maybe the crash is another thing I am doing wrong...)
I am glad that you found a solution to your problem. I would love it, if you would explain that solution here on the forum. Other users may be able to benefit from what you discovered.
The problem was with the configuration of Audio within Sonar.
After selecting the "Playback and recording" Driver mode and restarting Sonar (V4 still), I thought that it was the only configuration needed and assumed that something was wrong with the Sound Card drivers... and forgot to observe that I also needed to select a "Playback timing master" and "Record timing master".. that did the trick.
If someone finds this useful, please let me know so I do no feel that lonely....
Hey Mate not the only person having trouble, Just brought Sonar Home studio 4 and having trouble getting any sound on play back on my Inspiron 6400. Can Get sound out of the metronome and the basic midi track. But any audio I import such as wav files of projects created in kenetic I just can't get any sound. I Do Get message saying my sound card does not recognise the audio format with the option to disable or use any way when I load up. Emailed Cakewalk and they said to go to Options / Audio / Advance and switch my driver mode to MME interface. Done that with no success. Just don't know if it's to do with my computer configuration, or just something simple in Sonar Im just unaware of. Also have a Tascam UB-144 Midi/Audio Interface to record guitars through, again with much success. Not really sure what I should be doing in regards to seting up my audio and Midi Input Out Puts as I don't have an external midi controller. If it's not a problem with my computer set up then it would be good to know so I can just concentrate on nuting out Sonar. It's just that little message at the start that has me wondering. Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Just not sure if i'm going around in circles.Either with My computer sound set up or with Sonar even if it's a steer in the right direction to finding out a good sight explaing the ins and outs of Sonar. Cheers Noods
I have the same problem when I choose an unsupported driver mode in Sonar (meaning the annoying message on startup and not sound at all from MIDI tracks).
Check the following...
1) Go to "Options" "Audio" and the click on the "Advanced" tag. There, under "Driver mode" choose MME (32 bit). When you change this Sonar will tell you to restart... I do not know if it is necessary, but do it anyway!.
2) Same menu but go to the "Drivers" tag. You must choose Input and Output drivers (choose means "highlight" both). (Maybe its time to restart sonar once again...)
3) Same menu..."General " tag, check that you are not doing the same thing I did... pick the Playback Timing Master and Record timing master...
4) On the bottom of the "General" tag you should see a button "Wave profiler"... click it, and relax. Sonar will check the sampling rates supported by your card. Maybe it already did it on any other restart... in that case you will see the same movie twice.
5) Now go to "Options", "Midi Devices" and choose one input and one output. If you have the MIDI interface connected you will see the interface ports as well as your sound card ports. On the output you will se a "Wave table synth" or something like that... THAT is the one you need in order to play MIDI tracks with your computer. Otherwise SONAR will route all midi outs to other port with no sound generating capability.
