Hopefully the system is still under warranty, as the symptoms point to a failed mainboard.

Well after spending 4 hours with tech support on the Dell chat I found out I had a bad memory card.

That may explain the boot problem, but the failure to recognize the adapter is a separate issue - if the adapter is OK (i.e., the LED is on before you plug it into the notebook), you've also got a power jack or mainboard problem, that is separate from any memory issue.
