Sounds like a firewall issue to me, it knows when you connect hardwired its a "trusted device" but wireless, it is not sure, what firewall are you running?
I did have Norton Firewall installed, but found it was causing so many other problems that I completely removed it. I also had the Windows XP firewall enabled, but I disabled it too. Still did not help.
The only other firewall would be that in my wireless Dlink Di-624 router, but quite frankly, I am not sure even where to begin looking there for a problem/solution. Any ideas?
I am responding to your messages because you mentioned you had two desktops hooked up to the 3010cn printer.
I have 2 Dell desktops using the Microsoft Broadband Wireless Network. The base station has a new Dell 3010cn printer installed on it and is running just fine from the base station. I installed the disc on the remote computer and the 3010 shows up as an available printer, but can't get it to work.
hello paul, i am afraid i cannot add any help to this situation as i am in the same shoes as your self. i am running two Dell Dimension Desktops (one running vista hp, and the other xp pro) via Ethernet on a dlink wireless router. i also have a Dell 3010cn printer on this network. Along side these pc's i have 3 laptops all connecting through the wireless router, and a dlink wireless range extender at the other end of my house. one of these notebooks is running vista hp, while the other two are running xp pro. when the printer first arrived i installed the driver on all the desktops and notebooks and all ran smooth with no errors for about a week. then all of a sudden none of the computers would print. i soon realised that when the printer arrives it has a default ip "192.168.0.101", however the printer is set to "Auto IP" in the server properties. however i found out that my dlink router was assigning each dynamic dhcp client a new, differnt IP address every week, depending on the order they connected. this led the the printers ip to change to "192.168.0.102" which meant that all the computers had the wrong ip settings. i found this to be very weird as i thought a network printer always kept the same IP. so decided to assign the printer a static ip of 192.168.0.101. and entered the same settings manually into the printer. and hey presto! it worked on the desktops, and the notebooks for a day. however once i restarted any of the notebooks it no longer worked, yet continues to work on the desktops without fail. i try to set the IP manually on the notebooks and it can see the printer, but will refuse to communicate with it. the only way i can print of the notebooks is to continuously reset the printer and routers, which is very annoying. does anyone out there know how to fix this very annoying problem, or should i call dell and tell them to replace the printer? PLEASE HELP!!! Cheers, Mark
