Also, a good place to check for solutions to problems with a specific game are the support pages of that company's website. Most gaming companies have pretty good support pages, and most have support forums where you can get help.

The problem is : I couldn't even start the game. When I click on the Battlefield icon, the screen blinks a while ( just like what it reacts when you open WinDVD), and then the system jumps back to Windows without even enters the game. No error messages.

Have anyone ever played Battlefield on their i8500 ?

Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX and the latest nvidia drivers (44.03 with the inf's from www.geocities.com/madtoast).

I've played the demo of it on my i8500 and it ran perfectly. I think it must be drivers, or maybe you need to patch BF1942.

Could it be the refresh rate bug?

If its kicking you back to the desktop when you try to load the game up, go to

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings and open VideoDefault.con with wordpad or any word processor, and change the bottom line so it looks like this

'renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1'

I have an Inspiron 5100...as a matter of fact I just got it yesterday ;). Anyways...I just installed Battlefield 1942 Deluxe Edition (contains original and R2R expansion) and ran it.  The performance was superb, even at max settings, but I did encounter two notable instances of odd behavior:

1.  Some portions of "missing" texture...I assume they can be blamed on drivers.

2.  The Desert Combat mod crashed, it was the latest version 1.5 :( A pity too...I really like that mod.

Maybe somebody could help me out with that if they were kind enough ;).
