You can try, but it looks more likely that you need new hinge assemblies. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/sm/index.htm

Thanks for your advice. Do you know where I can get another hinge assembly or where I can get that fixed? I look a look at the documentation. The online service manual had a lot more information than what I saw in the .pdf version. However, it looks like replacing a hinge assembly isn't an easy thing to do.

Hinges: www.parts-people.com www.impactcomputers.com Dell Spare Parts 1-800-449-3355 ext 7269937 If you don't want to replace them yourself, most computer shops should be able to do the job for an hour's labor charge.

Thanks a lot, ejn63. You've been a tremendous help. I just have one last question.

It seems like a lot of computer places are hesitant about working with notebooks, especially Dells. I went to Best Buy yesterday and that told me they can't even touch them. Any idea why places don't like working with Dell notebooks? I'm just asking because I'm wondering if it will be difficult to find a place that will work on my laptop if I can't do it myself.

Thanks again.
