I know it easy to install but did dell gave u the card under ur warrenty or did u bought it ?
I have inspiron xps gen 2 and my video adapter is burned for the 2nd time in less than a year ( same problem for the old video adapter ,video memory error and blue lines in the background )
I bought it in april 2006 for 2705 us dollar from dubai and I have international warrenty .
dell australia telling me to send it to dubai to fix it cause they dont have the parts but I
have international warreny which means it can be fix anywhere in the world . this is my 3rd computer form dell but with this 1 am really disopointed and believe know
I was decived by dell for this laptop
know am collectiong all the e-mails from dell and I record some of the phone calls with dell and I saw a lawyer , I'll wait for 1 or 2 weeks then I'll go to court
please help me
thanxs
I understant your point being you have the international warranty but if I am not mistakeing a XPS Laptop can not be purchased in austrailia I remember someone complaining and wish he could purchase one their.
If I may sugest call Dell back and explain you need your laptop repaired quick and need it for work thats why you purchased the warranty because of the downtime it takes to send it to the depot. Then ask if Dell would send you the video card so you can replace it yourself. It is very easy when I had my XPS Gen 2 I upgraded from 6800 Ultra to the 7800GTX and it was very simple. Here is step by step directions if you can turn a scredriver you can replace the card yourself.

The 7800GTX is better and runs cooler then the 6800 Ultra the 6800 Ultras are known for the notorious and random white screen flash then crash and also some heat up pretty well.
I would just call Dell and explain you can not have downtime sending it to the depot and that is the reason you purchased the warranty to prevent downtime and being they don't sell or service the XPS laptop in Austrailia ask Dell to send you the card and replace it yourself.

Saif, firstly did you check if the XPS was ever sold in Australia?? Coz XPS Gen 2 is not available in Australia, so no service is available. One of the options available for you is to contact Dell Tech support either thru Chat or call the International warranty ( toll call ) and have the video card shipped to an address in the USA, you would have to re-ship the card to your location in Australia ( This is the only option available trust me, if you're looking for service in Australia, you're wasting your time, it will not be provided). The international warranty number is
512-728-7424 ( Toll call )
Yes , Thats right they dont support it in australia , but when u buy international warrenty no one tell you that , so thats cheating just to get money and they did it to me .
I called dell australia again and after 1 hour they told me we will call Uk to ask them for graphic card and UK refused , then they told me we r going to replace ur system with new one (inspiron 9400) and I said ok but I have to know the specification first and they said ok and we will call u in 48 hour and they called me after 2 hours and they said we will not replace it and we r going to replace ur video card with the same model which is fine if its not going to burn again (i told them ) and I want a paper from dell that says
the system should be replaced if the video card burned again cause i dont want to have the problem every 4 or 5 months and they didnt agree and we r still in the fight
one time they told me u didnt buy it from dell ...but I bought from a reseller for dell with dell warrenty and i bought the international warrenty also ,,so all the time they just dont want to say we sold u a bad laptop ....
Its not only me whos suffaring from thats problem , all the people who bought it , they should do like wht did they do to the battary replace all the inspiron xps gen 2
so am waiting for dell s call and we will c wht happen
well , am trying to work with them to get a solution but they r not giving me anything good , I sent emails to USA and australia and dubai and all ignored me , no one replay my e-mails , only 1 sent me e-mail giving me a name that I have to contact , and I sent him 2 or 3 e-mails and he ignored me ..........
am waiting for there call , and I hope they find a solution for my problem and as I told them this is my 3rd computer from dell ( 2 notebooks , 1 desktop )
You must understand that no PC manufacturer can gurantee everyone that hardware will not fail. But the imporant thing it may take some doing but if you go through the right chanels you will get your system fixed or replaced. I have been buying Dell for years and my last purchase my M 1710 had to be replaced twice because of faulty hardware but now I have a properly working machine. Just try to work with Dell not against them.
Good Luck and best wishes

Yes well I wish you the best and when you do talk to them tell them you can even change the card yourself. And you must get your laptop working because you use it for work.Try to get them to send you the video card then you can install it yourself simply by the step by step directions in the service manual.
Good Luck

What do you mean Dell is wrong by replaceing the mainboard and video card? I am confused is that not what you want your XPS working again?
Just exactly what do you expect Dell to do give you a new computer or somthing?
As I said before computers put out in mass production you will find faulty ,failing or defective hardware problems in a certin percentage of Pc's. That is what the option for a extended warranty is for. I myself can not see not to get the extended warranty when purchaseing a highend Laptop as one display or mainboard or video card can cost $500 to $700
I have owned a 9100 ,XPS Gen 1, XPS Gen 2 and currently XPS M 1710 and yes I have had hardware issues but Dell has always fixed any problem on hand with every Dell I have owned. Which is the sole reason I continue to buy Dells.

Sometimes a bad motherboard can cause problems with the video card. It is a good thing that you will have both components replaced. As I have stated Dell will resolve the issue one way or another and yes if by chance you still have issues they will fix or replace the system.
It takes some time sometimes working with Dell but as stated they always fixed the problems that I ever had while under warranty.
