Hi There.....

If you use the web interface or the frt panel menu. There is a software switch called Non Dell Toner. Turn it on and the printer will ignore the RFI tag in the cartridge.. It will also not give you any cartridge info on the remaining cartridges.

Hope it helps ya out a bit...

Hi Ray -
Thanks for the info. I don't think I have this software, is it a Dell download? Two other questions, (1) I had ordered toner cartridges through my previous printer supplier. They sent me toner cartridges for the 5100cn and said that they were compatible with my 5110cn. However, when I asked Dell Tech Support, they said that these two printers take separate toner cartridges.  Do you know which one is correct?    (2)  I want to print an odd size that my 5110 doesn't seem to recognize (5.5 x 8.5) will the software you mentioned also take care of that issue?  Thanks so much for your time & knowledge, Sandra.

Hi Again

It's the software/firmware that is imbedded in the printer.. Nothing to install or download. Use the menu on the frt panel and scroll to Printer Maintenance. You find the software switch there. if your using the network connection, you can access the built in web interface and do the same.

Hope it helps. If not when I get home i'll take a few scren shots of the web interface and post em

Hi Ray - Thanks (again), I did find the "maintenance" section. I swear I looked through the menu several times and didn't see that before. So, with that changed, can I use a toner cartridge that is for the 5100cn?  Are the toner cartridges for both the 5110 and 5100 essentially the same?

Nope... The 5100 & 5110 use a different cartridge, but it will let you refill you cartridges then. It will also let you run the printer untill the toner is gone. Remember that the toner level will no longer work with the NON DELL TONER switch on.

Watch out on the fine print of  warranty void on enabling the non dell toner mode.
