What are you doing to wake it? Hibernation and Standby requires a brief press of the power button. Only a sleeping screen wakes when you move the mouse or press a key. Too long a power button press restarts the computer.
I have tried using the mouse or space bar to wake computer but with no luck. The instructions on my computer say I should just have to touch the power button for a sec. and it'll start. When I try this, the WiFi light comes on and it sounds like the computer will start and then it stops, nothing happens to the screen, and so on. What do you think?
I have problem too. New Inspiron 1501 with Turion 64 TL50. On battery power, close lid, 1 out of 3 times it does not come out of sleep mode when power button is pressed. It freezes with blank screen. Have to power off.
Spent 3 hours on chat. Then 1 hour on tech support phone call. They restored to factory image.
They said to call back if problem, I did, they said they would call me back in an hour and haven't heard in 10 hours! Have no additional software. Still freezes.
Same problem. Email to customer support--no response.
I've been buying Dells for 10 years. Have bought 30 in past two years. Have had no problems and I thought the war tales I was hearing about how bad their tech support has become were isolated.
This company has gotten into a pretty bad state. The tech support has no clue how to support Vista have no diagnostic tools, they are flying blind. Their solution to everything is restore to factory image. And then when that doesn't work they lay low.
I may have fixed the problem! I reinstalled vista using the dell provided cd. I let windows find and install my drivers. Then I went to www.driveragent.com and did their scan (works with internet explorer). The only driver that was faulty was the video driver, so I went to the ATI website and downloaded the southbridge and catalyst drivers from my video card (radeon xpress 1150). I've had this fix for about 4 days with multiple openings and closings with no problems. I'm also using the synaptics touchpad driver software...everything else was provided by the vista installation. FYI...if you use the windows video driver (200m or something like that), the screen may flicker wildly on a lid open/close. DO NOT USE THE DELL DRIVER CD!
Help. I have the same problem. I end up having to power down every time, which is a pain. I am new to all of this. What did you do to fix the problem? Thanks
