Did you try installing it?  A couple of things you might try before installing the Logitech iTouch program.

1.  First remove the existing keyboard driver and SigmaTel C-Major Audio device in Device Manager.

2. Reboot

3. Windows will reinstall the correct keyboard and audio drivers.

4. BEFORE INSTALLING iTouch - Open the Volume Control interface and verfiy that the volume buttons are actually making the volume slider up and down.

5. Install iTouch.

6. Reboot - you should now be able to see the iTouch onscreen display when using the volume, mute, number lock, and caps lock buttons.

**** I completely understand the frustration - especially with the investment we've all made in our laptops....  I am a Dell Customer just like you.  I hope that this heas helped.

I've tried iTouch on my D800 and I confirm that buttons are working properly... EVEN if.. I REALLY DO NOT LIKE IT!

At the end this means: Dell needs software from Logitech to fix a problem... bha... quite strange...

I've been in touch again with italian Dell support, and they confirmed me once again (please note that I had this problem already TWICE and the first time I've formatted the HD and re-installed everythign again) that there is no solution and they can only push Dell to find a fix. I hope they will do it

Even if I agree that this is a minor problem, it is true that we payed quite a lot for this laptop and I think it is normal to expect it works as it should.

I'll stay with this "dirty" solution until somebody from Dell will find the right solution.

I had this problem, and sorry if this is a stupid suggestion, but here's what I found out - those volume and other buttons are run by the Dell Quickset utility.  I had disabled it to run SpeedswitchXP instead, but when I allowed Quickset to run again, all the buttons worked.  You can run Quickset and Speedswitch side by side, and Speedswitch will still control the CPU speed etc.

So, if you disabled Quickset, that might be the problem - just re-enable it and see.
