Hi thanks a lot....understood...I am not either a good PC repair person. I discovered a place
www.fixmymonitor.com check it out as it seems that this guys work / solve this issue often and not that expensive either
Yes the inverter board I purchased was a waste of money. I've got two to sell now in case you're interested! The new (second hand mind you) inverter had the same issue. I have two to sell because I tried to remove the old faulty backlight - not a job to be attempted lightly - it's very tricky and fiddley and I think I've mucked up the LCD in the process because it is all pretty well sealed up in black plastic tape and copper foil (at least my Hitachi model was). So now my options are to buy a complete new LCD assembly (which usually includes the inverter board) - or just buy a new laptop! Probably not a Dell though gauging by all the problems people seem to have with their displays.
There are loads of places that sell replacement parts for laptops on the internet generally and on e-bay - just type the part you want into google!
For my Dell 8600 I've already purchased a new inverter and that worked for 1 week and then I was back where I started, but it sounds like the backlight is the next step. Before I spend more money, can anyone confirm that would be the best course of action if:
- You power up or come out of hibernation, and during boot each screen appears for a couple seconds and then goes black
- Sometimes you get a login prompt and other times it has already gone black
- Sometimes if you reboot 3 or 4 times or do a diagnostic and reboot, the next time the problem goes away
- I got the same error code 1000-0323 during diagnostics
- I can hook up an external monitor, no problems there
- If you switch back and forth between LCD and an external monitor 10 or 20 times, it finally catches and stays lit
