Question with Dell 1704FPT ports on back

on the back of my Dell 1704FPT i have 2 USB ports and 2 more on the side. How do i get these to work? so when i plug in my components, the computer automatically recognizes them. Also what are the other ports called? All the help would be appreciated.

You have to connect the USB upstream connector on the monitor to a USB port on your computer.
