Clear Sky,

Is this

the image that is appearing? If yes, this means your PC is not sending a video signal to the monitor.

Chris, It worked fine when I first set it up. It can't be the video card because I am typing on the computer that was hooked up to the defective monitor. I simply switched to my old monitor and it works fine.

Chris, No. There is no text whatsoever and the lines are hair thin and vertical from top to bottom.

Clear Sky,

With the monitor disconnected from any PC and powered on, what appears?

Clear Sky,

* Turn off the monitor
* Unplug the monitor video cable (either the VGA or DVI) from the back of the computer. They should never be connected at the same time to the same video card
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background)
* Does the dialog box float around the screen without any visual problems? If yes, the monitor is working. Look to the video card driver or the video card itself as the culprit

Clear Sky,

If it is under warranty, get it replaced. They will need your order number and the monitor 20 digit PPID number. 1-800-624-9896.

ultra thin blue, red and green lines on a white background. It looks just like a super thin stretched out bar code.

Chris, Thats where the difficulty comes in. It failed under warranty but it is now out of warranty. It sits unused at a vacation home. How do I get someone to at warranty support to hear me out.

Hi I'm somewhat new to the forum and think I am having the exact same problem with my E521 Dell Dimension w/ Vista. I was just wondering if you ever found a solution to the problem b/c I think mine is the same and it is driving me absolutely crazy. My computer is brand new and still under warranty but I can't figure out how to fix the problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated b/c I'm having a hard time diagnosing the problem. Thanks for any help you can offer.

After troubleshooting with technical support, they concluded that the monitor was defective and replaced it under warranty. I suggest you do the same. Essentially if you turn on the monitor with it disconnected from the computer you should get a blue screen and some sort of signal failure message. Since there isn't the monitor needs replacement. At least it's still covered under warranty.
