You won't have any problems with upgrading the BIOS to a new version, unless you have a power failure in the middle of the upgrade process. I have upgraded thousands of PC BIOSes in my career and only one failed beyond repair.

Hey Mike3960, the safest way to flash a BIOS is to perform a USB memory key boot into DOS and run it from there. (Hopefully you have one. Note that formatting the USB key clears its memory as well. Back up any important data it my carry.) If you don't own a USB memory key, directions exist to boot from a CD, but I have not upgraded via this method yet.

The directions to create a bootable USB key can be found here http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm.
Do not use CD-ROM support, seems to conflict with the flash...

Just move the .exe that you download from dell onto the USB key.

Reboot.

Tap F12 at the Dell Startup screen before the Windows loading screen to bring up the boot menu.

Use arrow keys to select "Removable USB drive" (something along those lines) and press enter.

At the command prompt type in the name of the .exe (MM016A14??) and hit enter. If you forget the name of it use the "dir" command.

The BIOS flash will begin.
