Inspiron 1150 screen goes dark and fan runs pretty loud?

Question

Helping a friend with his daughters laptop.   The screen goes dark after a couple of minutes. You can still make out what is in the background but you have to look closely. All the programs keep running.   Also, the fan seems to be running on high.   Any ideas or solutions.   Thanks in advance for your help! It is appreciated.   Eug

The video problem is a faulty backlight or inverter. The high-speed fan is likely due to dust accumulation - have you cleaned the system out recently?

That makes sense and is what I thought might be the problem with the screen. Thanks.   No, have not cleaned out the system. Looking inside it is actually pretty clean though. I wonder if the problem with the backlight is causing the machine to overheat?
