PS3 on 3007WFP-HC

Question

Hi, I think I've read 5 different forums about this subject. And none of them actually say clearly if this is possible or not. I have recently bought a 3007WFP-HC because it was on promotion. Now I'm trying to hook up my PS3 with a HDMI (male) DVI-D (female) adaptor to my new monitor. But it doesn't work. Some forums say it's possible and some say it's not. It has something to do with the scaller, the monitor only has two native resolutions and my PS3 needs to feed in one of those two resolutions for it to work. I'm very disappointed because I would expeckt this cool monitor to be able to display whatever my PS3 is feeding. On my pc I have a Geforce 8800. Can I use this card to connect my PS3 to it and feed back to my monitor? Actually, I just want to know how I can connect my PS3 to my 30' monitor. I also have an old 24' LCD Dell, but it's an old one. 2 years old, don't know which model exactly. I can use my component cables to connect to my old 24'. But the quality is really bad. Anyone an idea why this is the case? But the important thing is to make my PS3 work on my 30'. I don't want to go and buy the new 2407 Dell just to play on my PS3. Much appreciated.

Correct. The 3007WFP-HC will only do two resolutions -
DVI Dual-Link port = 2560x1600 60hz HDCP
DVI Single-Link port = 1280x800 60hz

Your PS3 must be able to send one of those signals. If not, (and your within the initial 21 days from the invoice date), return the monitor to Dell for credit and purchase either the 2707WFP or the 2407WFP-HC.

Hi, Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm actually very happy with my monitor on my PC that is. But I wish to use it for my PS3 too. I have thrown away the box because it was huge. Can I still return it? I only have it for 5 days. If I find a way to connect my PS3 to the monitor I'll be happy.

not to poop on the 2407, but you might want to read up on it as well, seems to have issues with 1080p, always 'fills' the 1080p image to 1200 pixels rather than show the bars on top/bottom... could be iffy firmware or could be a bad monitor on my end, but i'm just saying don't rush out and get the 2407. granted, its a great monitor, but these little issues make it completely worthless to me.

Thanks for the warning. I don't think I'll return the 30' It's a great monitor. I use it to play poker :) But it would be so nice if I could hook up my PS3. Now I actually have to go buy a small monitor that supports my PS3. That's just crazy.

ChrisM,   Are you sure about the statement of DVI Dual-Link port = 2560x1600 60hz HDCP????   I've recently put a Pioneer BD drive into my 720H2C/3007WFP-HC with Cyberlink v7 deluxe and i cant play hdcp content at that resolution at all. In order for any BD movie to play I have to drop to 1280x800. My understanding of this was that HDCP and Dual-Link were not designed to go hand in hand.   If you know any different and/or a solution I'm all ears
