Chris I was also confused by your response to webzeb. Thanks for clearing that up.

BTW I even downloaded a driver (R151591.EXE) from Dell, a self extracting zip file for the 2407WFP-HC but when I tried to install it it stated that it "is a part of a multidisk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set". Then I have to cancel the install and get an error window. What's up with that?

ChrisM,
I have the HC monitor since July 30th. I also have the ghosting. In addition to that I experience that the monitor gives "strange colors" with text. Black text on white but also with a colored background. What I see is that the borderes of the text are have a color next to the actual text.

This is easiest seen, for instance while typing this message by placing the cursor next to a letter l or so, if you then keep you eye on the cursus you'll see that in between the letter and the cursor it is not white, but a green/blue-ish color is appearant. Actually the color is red on one side of the cursor or text, and blue on the other side, and if you keep the mouse over the capital A, I see red-yellow-green/blue in the area crossing the letter! This is very anoying, is it normal?

Please let me know if I can fix anything with the monitor settings to eliminate this problem.

Futher as I also live in Europe, I hope that we can also send in the monitor and get a New monitor as replacement, just as you are offering to the US customers.

Hello,

I bought this monitor from ebay (Netherlands) and I'm also seeing the ghosting/shadowing problem when playing games.
Hoy_roy try to disable ClearType in Windows XP/Vista and see if that solves your problem.

Chris-
Thanks for your investigation. I actually found this thread after purchasing the monitor and would like to know if you recommend waiting for a fix to be announced and cancelling the order or just going ahead with the order and possibly sending it in for a replacement later on.

In other words, do you think this fix is going to happen in reasonably short time period and if so, should new buyers wait for the fix.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the advice Erwin.
The clear type was already off, but now I have tried both ClearType and Standard. Unfortunately this makes no difference what so ever. If there are there others with the same experience, or if there are additional ideas to solve the problem, all help is welcome.

I just wanted to add myself to the list of people suffering from the Ghosting/Shadowing issue. I originally had a 2407wfp that died recently, and I've received a replacement from Dell. As there were no more 2407WFPs in the warehouse, I was given a 2407WFP-HC as a replacement. Originally I was happy about this because it was the new model, that is until I discovered this issue. Also, my screen has a stuck/frozen pixel right in the center of it that is stuck green. It's only noticeable when watching movies, or when looking for it, but it too is very disappointing as my old screen had no pixel issues. Also, my old screen used to suffer from "tearing" along the middle of the screen when using the XBox360 on the monitor, but a power off/power on cycle would fix it for a time, and it wasn't very annoying. However, the new model seems to tear all the time, when watching movies, when gaming, and when using the 360, and power cycling it only fixes it for a few minutes. (All my gaming and movie watching is at 1920x1200 @ 60Hz with Fill Mode on and via DVI, all Xbox 360 gaming is at 1900x1080 @ what I assume is 60Hz, with 1:1 and/or Aspect Mode on via the Microsoft VGA cable. Overall, I'm fairly displeased with this monitor compared to the previous 2407WFP A04 I had. I can only hope the issue is fixed (along with the tearing, hopefully) and I can receive (a SECOND) replacement for it, here's hoping for no dead/stuck/frozen pixels next time either. At least this one DOES function, unlike my mostly dead 2407WFP

Hi Chris,

I followed your instructions on downloading and installing the video driver but I still come up with the same issue. When I chose the directory to extract files to I still get a window stating "This self-extracting zip file is a part of a multidisk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set". Then when I click Ok or Cancel I get another window stating "An error occured while unzipping. One or more files were not succesfully unzipped. The error code is 110". It creates the folder and sub-folders but that's all.

Thanks for your reply, FixIt57.

Hi tijean66,

The driver on the Dell downloads is listed just for the 2407WFP-HC. It's at the top of the list. There's another for the 2407WFP witch is the one on the disk.

Hi folks... don't you just hate finding out bad news after the fact? Anyways, just posting to say that I'm in the same boat as the rest of you. Received my Dell 2407WFP-HC last week and noticed the strange black-blur thing while playing WoW. Since this was my first LCD purchase, I was hoping that my monitor had some type of like... warm-up/break-in period? Oh well, looks like the problem has been found and we just need to wait a little while. Kudos to ChrisM for all the updates in this thread. Thanks, DaPsychoKitty

I received this monitor just this past Friday (Sept. 14).  I absolutely love the monitor, because it's so sharp, but I am also suffering from this ghosting issue.

Chris, I installed the monitor driver that was mentioned above, but I still have the ghosting effect.  A very simple and easy way to reproduce the ghosting is to simply move the mouse cursor from side-to-side in Mozilla Firefox's Tab Bar.  A white ghosting effect is very noticeable.

This is not what made me come here, though.  I've noticed some quite drastic ghosting in Counterstrike: Source.  While straffing left and right, I see a wide black area while moving around walls.

Please continue looking into the problem.

Would I still be elgible for a New replacement if when all is done it is a hardware defect?

Thanks,

Evan

Chris, I realize engineering is still looking for the root cause, but any idea if this will be a firmware update for the monitor, or if it will be a hardware mod? Thanks.
