Hi again! I don't see how you think Dell will exchange all the monitors of this model. You see this ghosting as a problem, but I think it is just a matter of technology. You'll get replacement with what ? With the same display of course and maybe without RTC in which case you'll get different ghosting issues. Simply this panel is not as fast as it should be for games and other fast moving content.
Makes sense, but why isn't the original 2407 (non HC) impacted ?
Though the timing was the same...
it's not related to the response time as such, more to the RTC technology used to boost responsiveness (that's the theory here anyway). The 2407WFP-HC has an updated panel, and presumably different controller chips, electronics etc too.
Another whole week and still not news about the issue :( I know it will take a long time before they decide what the solution will be, but why taking so long to let us know what the problem really is, so we can decide what to do with it.
People have posted a lot information that seems like a good start to check them.
I am hoping that by tomorrow friday any information is provide before another and another week goes by, this waiting is killig me. lol
I received the first bill today from dell now that is fast; :)
Well, whether you can accept the ghosting issue (regardless of the reason for it) will depend on your personal tolerance for such things. Given that the particular unit and settings involved appear to result in different ghosting issues also makes it difficult to generalize.
To give you an idea of what I am encountering, here are some quick pics I took with my lousy handphone camera, so apologies in advance for the quality. The pics are the result of dragging the date and time properties box over the Palm Desktop application.
I have to caution that the particular background (colours, text, pattern) does have an impact on how extreme the ghosting/smearing/shadowing appears. This is just one of the clearest examples I've encountered after trying all the tests suggested in earlier posts. In normal situations, the effect tends to be reduced and not as noticeable.
cjk 25, IMHO, these pics have nothing to do with the ghosting problem on this monitor. I had the same behavior on my previous computer with Win 98, ATI videocard and CRT. This looks to me like a videocard/ video driver problem. I also see this from time to time on my work computer (Intel integrated graphics and Dell 1907FP monitor)
This problem is repeated on both a Nvidia 8800GTS 640MB and an ATI Radeon X800XT. If you have any suggestions on what configuration/settings to check, I would be happy to give it a try.
And my other monitors do not exhibit the same problems when paired with the same video cards.
I'm not saying that they don't exhibit ghosting, most consumer-grade LCDs will have minor ghosting in some form or other. It's just that the effects with the 2407WFP-HC are particularly pronounced.
Hi BernardPD, anything's possible, I guess. But in this case, I've tried the same test on a couple of other PCs (Dell 8400, Dell 8100, Custom) with different monitors (Sony 17", Samsung 19", Sony CRT) using different video cards (ATI, Nvdia), and while there is slight ghosting on the other LCDs (1 or 2 frames that last a split second & barely noticeable), that's nothing compared to what I get with the 2407WFP-HC. Which leads me to suspect the signifcant ghosting effect is specific to this particular monitor.
OK cjk25, I thought of a quick test to determine if this is videocard or monitor related.
Move the date/clock panel around on the desktop to see the "ghosting", and while this ghosting is happening, hit the Print Screen key. Then paste into Paint.
If you don't see any ghosting in the image, it is because the ghosting is monitor-related. If you see the ghosting, it proves that the ghosting is already in the signal sent to the monitor by the videocard.
Try a few times to make sure.
All this because Print Screen, of course, takes a snapshot of what is sent out of the videocard, not of what is actually on screen.
I did just that. It is definately the monitor. No ghosting appeared in the screenshot that I took.
BTW I purchased my monitor monday, it shipped tuesday and I had it Thursday. I do have the ghosting issues, and I have a made in september panel.
I have also noticed that the longer the monitor is on, and the warmer it gets, the more sever the ghosting becomes. Everything starts to ghost, even very slow moving objects.
Well rhyzome, your post doesn't help us and all HC monitors have ghosting. You simply don't know what to look for, good for you. Some people are color blind, well, you're simply one of those.
Granted there are many posts regarding the ghosting but there has not been much in the line of updates from Dell concerning it.
Chris (Dell)acknowledges they are looking into it and yes it takes time but..............
It's almost like it has dropped from the Dell radar and since the "average" user is accepting the current version, the urgency to fix the problem isn't there.
Why are you so sure that all the monitors have ghosting. Well it's actually truth in general and concerning not only this make and model, but if you consider that from all over the world 20 people are complaining for me means that either there is no serious problem or problem whatsoever, or maybe these 20 people are with an extraordinary sight and are nitpicking in a desire to receive the ideal picture which does not exist for the moment for their prescious 600$. The boy is telling you that he does not have a problem with his monitor but you could not accept it and continue to convince him that he is just blind to not see it. I hope that will be the case with mine too when I get it.
As for the guy with the pictures and the screenshot from his desktop. This method is not valid. You will never get a smeared screenshot no mather what you see on your monitor. That's how the things work. So it really doesn't mean anything.

Or maybe I'm just too impatient!
