PATHETIC I agree. I have an M1710 with 4 gigs so I feel your pain. Did you open a TECH SUPPORT TICKET?? Open a ticket and play the game with them. After they tell you different stories then open an UNRESOLVED TICKET and complain at a higher level. (that is where I am)
I am on day 20(+/-). I'm getting a Dell loaded drive to try and after that I am sending in my laptop (maybe)... and it has been 4 YEARS since people have been dealing with this. I'm not waiting to go out of warranty... even if it has been a 8 months if they can't make it work, I want my money back or they can send me something that works.
ONLY A REAL SUPPORT TICKET will get you heard and build a paper trail. The FORUM does NOTHING but waste you warranty!!!!
"The FORUM does NOTHING but waste you warranty!!!!"
You keep saying this but it makes no sense. This is a user-to-user forum and has nothing whatsoever to do with your warranty from Dell. Use the forum if you want to, or don't use it. It doesn't waste your warranty time; only you and Dell can do that. Leave us out of it.
I am not trying to implicate any forum users..... Just trying to make sure people use "TECH SUPPORT". There are too many people trying to fix problems that "tech support" should fix. They spend all of their time here and before they know it.... 1 year or 3 years has gone by...
You see staff at Dell in here all of the time quoting " First of all, this is a
user to
user forum not tech support, we try to help if someone is not getting answers but mostly help is provided by other
users."
That is all I was trying to say. I read a lot of older post where that has happened...
As far as an official fix, I don't know anything that isn't posted here in the Portable Audio board. The idea that a fix is forthcoming came from our former moderator, Rollie. He is the one who put up the stickie post with the links to the workarounds. He had posted elsewhere that Dell knows about the problem and that the various companies are working together to find the problem and fix it. He gave the impression that he would update us on the situation from time to time. Well, now he seems to be gone. I don't know if there will be any fixes, updates or anything. Actually, I'm not certain how far up or down the hierarchy chain the moderators are, how much "in the know" they might be, and whether or not their statements about what's going on in other divisions within Dell are solid, rumors, wishful thinking or whatever.

Please name a Portable Audio member who has done that, or link to one of their threads.
Thanks,
Jim
